Would you honestly rather have a 09 CTS-V over the E63???

Would you guys honestly rather have a 09 CTS-V over the 09 E63? I would have to say no way. I know that the CTS-V will man handle the AMG in about every way performance wise but I just don't think that car holds a candle on the E in any other way. I just feel really proud and lucky to have a Mercedes E63.

The performance would make me seriously consider the CTS-V over the E63. But, I've really enjoyed my first Mercedes and I would likely lean more towards the E63 simply because I believe it is more refined than a Cadillac.

I have heard good things about the CTS-V. In the end, it is a Chevy and that is a personal choice but the performance numbers make you look.

On equal ground, dollar for dollar you can have an E55 with mods and a CTV-S for the same price as a new E63.

german stuff
Power is nothing without class and quality, the Mercedes delivers in every single aspect. So i would def. stick to Mercedes, the Cts V does have some crazy power, but a modded e55 would def surprise it.

An '09 CTS-V? I don't think we would be having this conversation except for the '09 and it isn't cheap.

It's like a civic that run 8's. Who cares. There's more to a car than speed and numbers. An AMG is a whole package experience. What kind of heritage does a CTS-V have? Exactly.

Wow that was really dumb.

Yes I would take the CTS-V over an E63 any day of the week..... The only thing that separates the E63 from a regular E-class that are a dime-a-dozen, is the AMG package, which... Wait for it... Is all about numbers. When you take that into account, the Caddy's numbers are just superior.

08 E63 Wagon
CTS = C class

STS = E Class

DTS = S Class

With that said.

Compare the Lexus GS and Infiniti M to a regular E Class and you will find both of those have more gizmos, less road noise and somewhat an updated feel to them. Like they said above, AMG gives the E Class an overall package boost in power and performance but you take that away and there's not a whole lot that seperates the Regular E class from the others. Yeah we can say its a Merc, but Lexus also says the same thing about thier cars.

I'd take an E350 over a GS or an Infiniti (any of them) anyday. The difference is in the drive. If you don't feel the refinement, then by all means do not pay for it.

Lexus has a leg to stand on, since they actually compete but Infiniti?

Exactly, Its in the drive.

The Germans have more of a road feel vs the Japs concentrate on quiet and comfort. When I switched from my M45 to a E63, I seriously thought it was a step down b/c the E has more road noise, less interior space, less & more complicated to use Gadgetry. but its the AMG aspect that makes the package whole (for me anyway).

I'd still take the E63, as others have mentioned, the German cars have a unique feel to them, especially the AMGs.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
To answer the original question,
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I guess I like brand recognition, everything that embodies MB....
Those things are even better w other marques, ala Bentley !

I would pay for my E63 vs. take a free GM CTS-V......

I would give the CTS-V a good test drive before deciding if it would replace the E63 in my garage after the lease ends. That's the wonderful thing about leasing: the opportunity to sample different cars for a known quantity of time! The CTS-V's numbers and comments from the automotive journalist community I think merits at least a consideration.

And I never say never, not after swearing I'd never have a minivan EVER in my garage and then my wife decided on a Odyssey Touring instead of an X5 4.8i because it's better as a Mom Mobile appliance - with one 2 1/2 year old and another on the way, who am I to argue what's best for her?

As for the growing side argument regarding Lexus and Infiniti, I would agree after test driving an '08 Infiniti M45 Sport that the driver's appeal still falls short of what I've come to expect from the Teutonic three of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. But the opinion on the Lexus IS-F has been pretty favourable even from one of my favourite publications: "evo", and with Lexus rumoured to be working on a GS-F, that could also be an interesting candidate in this segment.

I guess my position is to keep an open mind and vote with my wallet/monthly lease payments. I think Forrest Gump would agree that new cars are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get!

Nope, no more jokes. I still think what you said was dumb, however, I did not say that you were dumb... Anywho, lets not ruin this thread. I'm over it.

Don't get me wrong, the CTS-V is going to be a great GM Machine. I will definitely be taking one out for a spin, but my heart is already somewhere else. It is with the E class AMG's for now.

I think the CLS looks A LOT better than an E (my personal opinion) so if I were to compare my CLS to a CTS-V, I would not do it. But the E does not look as good as the CTS-V to me, so it's really a toss up.

For those who said things about marque names, etc... MBZ is not the end of it. If that's what you chase, there will be others once you get an MBZ. There are Bentleys, AM's, and the exotics. Or a better AMG (I'll pick up a slightly used 2008 S65 late next year, or a CGT). So if you can differentiate yourself from brand marque and look at cars for their own merits (not "it's a Chevy"...) then the CTS-V is a very worthwhile consideration. After all, I would really like to give American products a preference if at all possible.

If I was looking, and my choices are between a CTS-V and an AMG E, 80/20 I would go American.
