Depending on when you want to read boost - for me it was easiest to drill and tap a fitting. There isn't any easily accessible boost source from the factory on these cars.

Maybe while driving. I just wanted to see if the car is boosting as it should. Where did you drill for the fitting

You can read boost through OBDII scanner or tap a line into one of the intake surge tanks. They are the ones with AMG log on top.

You have a boost gauge?!?! What a ricer.

JK man, why don't you organize a Chicago meet already? It has been too long!

2 questions regarding this.

1. If I tap a source after the IC before the TB, what boost levels should I be seeing on a stock 55? I know they are rated to run .8bar (11.5 psi), but what type of loss is seen in the intercooler?

2. If I wanted just a temporary source, is there any available temp sources? MAP, FPR, etc...that could be used for a single pull just to monitor the levels? Obviously, neither of those sources are good sources, but I hate having to tap into something permanently simply to monitor the boost for one pull basically. Same for why I would not install a gauge, I will simply tape this to the window, or drag a vacuum line into the cabin temporarily.

Thanks,
Scott

Very funny. No, I don't have a boost gauge, it's so I can measure boost on the dyno. Have you seen how many times my before/after boost chart has been used on the forums lately?

I agree with it being too long since we met, maybe we should try setting something up.

Thanks for the info
In order to read it from the obdII port do I need a generic obdII scanner or do I have to use star.

Either one, as long generic supports CAN bus.

Alexandarr,

I don't have a gauge in my car. We put it on for tuning/dyno purposes - so when I strap onto the dyno we have an easily accessible boost source. I could put a gauge on it but boost is fairly static with parasitic superchargers - it's not like a turbo car...

I put one in my 2000 c230 Kompressor.. it reads a whopping 5.5lbs of boost hehe, tho I think my boost gauge looks cool in the c230, I don't think its appropriate for the E55, its to elegant.

Looks good in the c230

I was thinking of a smaller one in the ash tray....

what would be nice is boost, oil pressure maybe oil temp and a\f ratio if you are tuning, tripple gauge in the center console like the w201 190e 16 2.3 16valve .

or a single digital gauge that reads all.. i think that would be best for the modern sophisticated e55 kompressor.

05 crossfire w/SL55 drivetrain installed by Rudy Compart Intake/Needswings best et-10.76 @ 129
right here works great.,, find a place where it will not interfear with TB or any thing then remove either side the manifold drill , tap it what i did was tighten the fitting into the maniflod ,,then count the thds inside sticking through,, remove the fitting, grind off those thds so i had a smooth surface inside, . good luck,, have fun . I made my own pillow pod,, found one that almost fit heated it with heat gun and remolded it to fit,. jim
