Transmission thump

When the car is cold, I get a thump when I shift into reverse or drive.
Also in 3 gear when I gently press on the throttle I get a vibration comming from the drive line. Could this be transmission mounts going or a flex disc going bad.

it absolutely could be the transmission mounts. i had similar problems after someone at the dealer forgot to tighten all 6 of the crossmember bolts down on my car. it's any easy place to start so check them asap!

Physically can I check this?
As far as I know my car is not leaking any fluids. Coolant level is constant.

Internaly through the radiator core.

There will be no sign of leaking so you will need to check the tranz oil color by using a dip stick tool or undo the tranz sump and get a sample from there.

If your under warranty, no probs... if not, then get ready to get ripped a new one.

On the opposite side, is it normal to see oil floating in the radiator reservoir?

No... that doesn't appear to be healthy but could it be due to after market additives.

If there is frothing in the water, a whitish brownish color then it's hit the fan.

I didn't think it was either, but a number of cars at Famosa had some drops of oil floating at the top when the radiator cap was removed. It wasn't a load, but like a mL max.

Mine is clean but I wondered if it is something that comes with age...

Thanks finny. What color of fluid should I be looking for, if there is water/coolant in the tranny. Also what is the color of regular fluid.
