E55 vs CLS 55 vs SL55 AMG's
I would be interested in highway pulls and 1/4 mile pulls.
The CLS feels superior anyway by virtue of its gorgeous interior and sleek exterior.
The SL drops its top and doesn't care what the other two think.
Something like that.

So I would not say that SL55 would loose out to CLS or E.

The fastest known 1/4 mile time for a stock E55 is forum member Enzom's 11.775 seconds. For an SL55? 12.4 seconds. There are dozens of stock E55 times on http://www.dragtimes.com with 1/4 mile times faster than 12.4.
But no need to simply take my word for it. One of the fastest 1/4 mile tracks in the country is ATCO in New Jersey. You should head on over the next time the NY/NJ guys are planning an event there. It's a lot of fun and you can get some hard numbers on how fast your SL runs.

Hey jmf003, whats your procedure when launching your SL55 at the track? I turned the esc off today and nailed it and got about 80 ft of rubber, exclamation in the dash was flashing on and off and it felt like it stopped spinning for a second but when i went back to the spot there was no break in the marks to my surprise. Then i punched it with it on and the car fell flat on its face then proceeded to rip out of the hole.

- ESP off
- Short, dry burnout (no need to heat street tires, just clean them)
- Stage
- Left foot on brake, right foot off accelerator
- Release the brake and simultaneously roll into the accelerator
- Take about 1 second (slightly more or less depending on track prep) to reach wide open throttle
The next East Coast organized track day is at Maryland International: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-1-09-a-2.html. A bit farther away from Long Island but great folks and another fast track.
I miss going to the Hampton's LI to run, wasn't a half bad track and there was always a party afterwards. Atco's a very fast track, always ran a few tenths faster than Etown.

Something that might be worth keeping an eye on are the bolts that attach the rear end to frame. Forum member Skeeter encountered this problem with his car. Although the cause was never pinned down Mercedes blamed his engine mods for essentially producing more torque than the car was designed to handle.
