63 Brakes & TSB - What would you do?
I am well aware of the TSB on squeaky brakes, and have read numerous threads on here. I just picked up an 07 e63/35k miles..... the brakes squeal uncontrollably and constantly at all times (slow slops, hard stops)..... I even did a few "heat cycles" in an attempt to cure this - nothing. The PPI done on my car prior to sale (I hired someone) state that both front & rear pads are at approximately 50% life remaining. My dealer says they can add the paste, but when it wears off, the sound will return. They stated if the pads are under 1yr/10k miles old, MB will warranty and replace pads. Now, I called the dealership where the car was bought new/serviced (even two months ago) and they have ZERO records of ANY brake work.... so obviously the original set does not have 35k miles and 50% life left - I speculate the work was performed somewhere else in the midst of all this...... Any way I can get MB to warranty the pads, or track down service records to see how old these current pads are? (Only one MB dealer close to where the car was bought new/serviced - it would have been an Indy shop)....
TIA

Actually, the pads may be original. I have seen many E63s with 35k miles with decent pad life left. The brake pads have been revised since 07, and have new style backing pads to reduce the noise.

Pay for the EVOsport rotors and new pads and be done with the concern. The rotors knock almost 10lbs off each corner and that is noticeable. I wish EVO had more suspension and brake parts for our cars.

In my area(Chicagoland), it's not uncommon to go 45k miles on the E55. Make sure that when you replace the brakes that only the approved grease is used, as MB made a chart in January to specify which grease to use on which pads, and the graphite coatings that some put on the pad material to prevent noise actually creates it. Are you questioning what to use on the E55 or E63, as they require different items?

Originally E63......
However you mentioned you have seen 35k miles w 50% life left (E63) and that reminded me of my old 55...... I bought the car w 30k miles, was VERY hard on the brakes almost all the time, and replaced them at 50k.... I assumed this was the SECOND time the pads/rotors were replaced (28k or so and 50k) but it must have been the first??
Thx for input

Just to FYI, my buddy picked up an 04 S55 with 64k on it a month ago. He is doing pads and rotors all the way around, and can you believe, the pads were the ones that came on it from the factory!!! The pads and rotors were completely used up, but 64k miles?! I know that is on the high end of mileage, but if the car is only used on the street, the brakes really are sufficient.

I am ready to call my dealer since I am having the same problem as we speak! They said the "rear brakes were glazed and recommend replacing at this time" They never said anything about the DTB P-B-42.10/76 JUL07
Guess who is getting a call right now

What should I do ???
I would like to know what to do --
I believe it unfair to me to have to buy new pads when there is plenty of life left....
I also don't believe brakes on a 95 thousand dollar car should be making these noises.....
I should not have to deal with this, nor do I have the time
This is one of only two complaints I have about the 63
Other being "fuel range" becoming pump icon - stupid.....

Jpohl, unfortunately, you are a (slight) victim of purchasing a used car. MB's warranty on brake pads and rotors is 12 months/12000 miles, and there is unfortunately, no real recourse you have besides replacing the pads with the latest version, and ensuring that the correct, if any lube is used on the pads in the correct places to eliminate the noise. Sorry, but I hope that this helps. If you want to DIY, it isn't real difficult and I can get you all the necessary info if you PM me.

I agree, I melted my sensors too, but you would be surprised of the AMG market in the Chicagoland area. Most of the buyers don't really drive the cars to their true potential. It's kind of sad.
