At what point will you upgrade your AMG w211 to w212?

I gotta admit, the E55 for set the standard pretty high as to when I'll upgrade but what about the rest of you guys? When or what needs to happen prior to trading/selling your E55/E63 for a new W212?

Are you going to be the first in line for a new W212 AMG? While I'd like one of the 1st w212 AMG's, I can't see buying a lead balloon. Most of us have some mods on our current E55's as well making it a tough task for a stock w212 AMG to out perform. But who knows right...

Are you going to wait until some leases end on AMG w212? I might and buy a 24-36 month lease back CPO at 50% of MSRP. By then, a good hand full of mods will be available from some of our favorite tuners... I hope.

So for me, I'm sticking with the E55 probably until 2012 or 2013 and be watching these forums with all your crazy guys breaking new records in the AMG E-class category. I can't wait to see what some of you guys have planned already!

I may be in a different position than most on this forum, so I'll share my unique point of view.

When I bought my E55, it was only because I was able to afford it due to the depreciation and the economy. At the time I did not make a lot of money, so being able to afford payments on an E55 is what made me pull the trigger. Having said that, I probably will never upgrade to a W212 E-AMG for two reasons: the first being that I probably won't be able to afford it for many years to come. Reason number two is a little different; should I find myself in a position of better financial standing and be able to afford to pay more to play more, I honestly don't see an AMG sedan high up on my list. I am not knocking the Mercedes AMG whatsoever as I LOVE my E55... I just happen to be more excited by a different type of car that's all.

Indeed. I agree completely with your reasoning. E55's are like 35k now EASY with relatively low miles. This is a car that the average person wouldn't be able to tell if it just came out or ( the truth ) has been out for years lol. Hell, E320's are like 16k with decent miles on them.

I believe the choice in this matter soley relies on your pockets. If you like the car you'd get it if you had the chance to afford it. For the budget minded, it would be the best option everytime to just wait until the car hits the lot because a few grand has easily chopped off. Especially in this economy as of current, I'd be hard pressed to rush and get a w212 now instead of waiting for a few months down the line. It'll still be new and look fresh as ever when you do have the opportunity to get it ( Alot of people still think the current w211 is the newest one ).

Also, as quoted. I'm one of the people that just wouldn't blow TOO much money on an amg sedan ( Cl MIGHT be a different story ). I'd rather spend that type of money on either a c6 z06 or hpf stage 2.5 e46 m3 and keep the w211 for what it is. A SUPER SEXY *** family hauling grocery getter that can put a smile on your face blowing by that $175k ferrari lol. That's just me though.

E63 AMG
Well for me I have been in my e63 for 2 years now. I plan to stay in my E for probably another 2 years. I am actually considering getting a new E, but might go to a CL, I am undecided at this point.
For me it comes down to what is the official AMG release gonna look like? What engine will it come with? Price isnt so much the issue as I am established in my life and can afford what I need and most of what I want. Dont want to make that sound bad, but i am still a fruggle shopper most of the time.
I know we have seen some official pics, and a lot of different hearsay regarding the engine they will use. I really dont put much faith in hearsay. Until it actually comes out and I can get a close up look at it I will hold off.
One last thing to note, if the new E class AMG comes with the Same engine i am already running that would be excuse enough for me not to buy it. I love my 63, but wanna see a different engine before changing cars. Maybe a 63 TT ?

I disagree with the OP's statement about the W212 being an "upgrade"...

It's ugly as sin.

I'm starting to think about a W203 to W211/212 upgrade at some point (probably no sooner than two years). I'm actually kind of glad that the W212 is so ugly to me. That way I won't be the slightest bit tempted to go for a newer and more expensive car. Instead, I'll be even happier to "settle" for a (hopefully) low mileage 2008/09 W211 E63. And I'll also be able to take advantage of a probable further price drop once the W212 2010's come out because of the new chassis/body style.

I thought they already decided that they'll be twin turboing the 5.5L from the 550 models to replace the 63 except that it won't happen until the face lift in mid production cycle possibly by 2013

E55 then E63, now back to an E55

As of right now, isn't it ??

As far as original question, (and I've said this before) -- I truly plan to keep E63 for quite some time, regardless of the new model or how fast it is....
The added bonus is I won't have to spend a bunch of money on new vehicle, licensing, etc (though I would if I felt compelled to do so)

Having the newest thing is nice, but I absolutely love EVERYTHING about the W211 ( esp. E63 gauges, steering wheel, nav unit, shifter, seats, etc)

when AMG builds a car that is better than the 55K - the 63 is nice but lacks the fun factor the 55 does that we have all come to love (i.e. TORQUE MONSTER)

I see no reason to "upgrade" to the W212. If it's not broken don't fix it amirite?

Some of my decision will depend on if the W212 AMG will be out by the time my current lease is scheduled to end: April of 2010.

However, I'm also wary if it's so new that there will be bound to be initial model teething problems, I might wait...and extend my W211 lease.

Or I may go and enjoy something else for 24-36 months and come back to the W212 AMG...there are so many interesting cars out now that we're spoiled for choices: Maybe the new CTS-V will catch my fancy for a bit? The F01 7-series looks interesting and may fit my growing family (+1 in August) better? The Jaguar XF-R could be cool, never pictured myself in a Jag ever but never say never! And within the Mercedes-Benz family I could go with a W221 S-class, which was what I'd originally ordered before changing my mind and getting the E63.

Or maybe just lease a 'normal' W212 E550 and then move up to the AMG?

Like I said, we're spoiled for choices!

I will keep my E55 for a couple years, enjoy it, demod it back to stock, and then get into a Cl65 AMG.
