Question for Quaife Owners?
Hey Guys,
I have done all lot of mods to my car and the traction is becoming more of an issue. I am running 275/30/19's PS2's on the rear with a set of Renntech Toelinks. I plan on getting INVO's or the new Bridgestone R-11 just to see if that helps a bit.
My question is do you guys like the LSD? Hs it helped with traction? Am I an idiot that I have not put one on my car at this point? Any info will help immensely!
Thanks,

Get the LSD, you will be happy. I can still spin tires easily but its less spin and it is very predictable. I've been known to get my car sideways and stay in it seeing the car next to me through my windshield

I have Dunlop Sport Maxx tires but thats only because they sponsored me with a set lol. They arent bad tires but not the stickiest either. If you want sticky go with the Invos or crossover into the r comp land. In the summer I run my kinesis wheels wrapped in Toyo R888's. And if I really wanna hook, out come the CCW's and mickeys lol

My car is far from just a race car. I drive it all the time! Matter of fact I just drove up past Philly this weekend

I saw Mikey's set up at Famoso, The 16 inch CCW's and the MT are a hardcore setup. I read that a new Bridgestone tire is coming out called the R-11 and I am considering the INVO's. I know the PS2's are great but they are expensive and I want to see if I can get better grip for less cash.

But are they worth the price? F$%k no. $1600 just for an effin' set of TIRES is ridiculous. You can just about buy 2 complete sets of conti's or pirellis or bridgestones or any other comparable brand for the same price as one set of PS2's. Michelin is hitting the bong hard when it comes to their new pricing
But given your mods, the solution to your problem at this point is not new tires anyway, it's the LSD. So you're on the right track.

I have tried about every possible brand of tire on different cars over the years. You're never going to do any better than those PS2's in a street tire. They really are the cream of the crop.

The Viper and Z06 guys like the INVO's and say that they are better launch tires than the PS2's but not better at cornering. I am really curious about the new Bridgestones that are coming out. Tire rack has them but you have to go to the Bridgestone site to se a pic.
Here they are RE-11

I recently had the Quaife LSD installed with Toelinks and they compliment each other nicely. I haven't noticed a huge difference at the track or on the streets with the LSD's but they proven to be much more consistent with launching. For example, the first time I went to the track I only had one run below 2 seconds on the 60' mark...without Quaife. The second time with the Quafie installed all my runs were in the range of 1.85 - 1.95's with street tires (Toyo T1R's 275 35 18)...at Sacramento Raceway to boot.

This car should have had a LSD from the factory

if you don't have a LSD you're just pissing away power. anytime that the traction control intervenes it's slowing you down and that intervention is due to spin of the ONE driven wheel. Now drive both wheels and you will have much less traction control intervention.

I am getting mixed reviews regarding the traction. Some folks tell me its a must and some people are telling me that I will not gain a thing 1/4 mile or 60ft.
I gues I should try and drive a car with one in and see what it feels like compared to my car.

That is what I would have thought but I guess Mercedes decided against it.

Which car is going to naturally want to go straight? MB left it out for cost reasons only. And BTW there is not a single real drag car running a open diff. They run spools.

Think of it this way. Without a LSD you are trying to push the car from the right rear. Now put in a LSD and you push the car equally from both the left and right side.

[QUOTE=psuball1;3387406I spoke to some very credible folks that said that their personal 60ft and 1/4 mile did not improve.[/QUOTE]

See yeah
PS: for road racing YES it is required
For street use, well you get the point. Cost of entry is just too high on return, IMHO

What kind of 60' times are these people getting? If they happen to be getting in the low 1.7's or high 1.6's I could see why they wouldn't see much improvement but for the casual racer like myself it seemed to help quite a bit....
I was in your shoes not too long ago and someone pointed out that there must be a reason why most of fastest E55 have them.

On the 1/4 mile track, it may not be our best bang for the buck but it helps in a number of ways. First, is the consistency of having that power somewhat split instead of one wheel. Another is cleaner burnouts. remember at Famosa how the cars without LSDs were spinning just one tire at times (bad track prep)? That won't happen with an LSD.
To those that say you can't feel it on the street, I say give it a shot. i will be getting a quaife ASAP mostly for DD duty. It is so much nicer to go around a turn with the throttle on....

i have mine on order as we speak. i cant wait to put it on i hate this one wheel peal.
i remember when i was at the track i was getting out of the hole fine till 2nd gear came and then 1 wheel would spin and slow me down.
i this this car and all amg should come std with lsd.

That's because the ESP is intervening even when you have it "Off" it does it by adding brake at the spinning wheel, then by closing the throttle, pulling timing and fuel.

i'm in total agreement that an lsd is far superior to an open diff. however, my oem open diff never had any problem putting power to the ground evenly. it always spun both tires during burnouts, never ever had any pushing to one side off the line, and always launched hard and straight as an arrow. due to my past experiences and peoples opinions on an lsd for these cars, i fully expected to shave some time from my 60ft and et after the quaife install...but i didn't. maybe my experience was the exception rather than the rule.
