I was wondering if you guys could educate me on this
From what I understand tuners generally coat Mild steal to protect it from rust and help with heat.
Now SS does not suffer from these two things as much, so what role does coating them help over come?
As most SS headers seem to be none coated from what I have seen
And can it benefit from coating?
Thanks

the theory is that coatings are also said to (help) prevent heat transfer into the metal thereby causing exhaust gasses to retain their heat and potentially their escape velocity. does it work...sure...to an extent. will you feel or be able to measure any gains...doubtful.
I wouldn't bother on ss...

Yes, if you are getting mild steel headers, get the coating. JetHot has a lifetime warranty. I've been running a set of JetHot coated mild steel headers on one of my cars for over 14 years. I had them recoated a couple of years ago and should easily last another 14 years.
The coating really helps keep underhood temps down and they greatly extend the life of the headers. The ceramic coating is known to help hp by keeping the heat in the headers and thus helps keep the exhaust velocity high.

As previously mentioned, it really helps keep temps down. Your EGT's will go down, underhood temps will be better as well which is a major plus considering the E55's probs with heat soak...

After a lot of research on ceramic coatings I had my W210 Kleemann headers and downpipes coated with Swaintechs white lightning coating. Its much thicker then jet hot, HPC, etc and I'm pretty impressed with it. I don't know if it makes any more power or if it has any effect on the preservation of the metal headers but I do know it really keeps the heat out of the engine compartment. I'm pretty much convinced I could touch the headers while the car is running after a hard pull. I haven't had the ***** to try it but I can get my hand within a 1/2 inch or so no problem. Try that with the stock exhaust manis and your hairs would probably be singed. Swain coating is not real pretty but it seems to work well.

I agree that it will reduce underhood temp and that's why you should be doing it.

You won't feel any gains on a supercharged car other than those from reduced underhood temp. On a Turbocharged car coating the headers does show gains because the exhaust temp is preserved therefore the exhaust velocity is higher spinning the turbo harder

Swaintech is by far the best as most of the ceramic coatings are for looks (swaintech looks and feels funky). If you check their site there are also other uses and different kinds of applications.

well there is lots of debate on this,, and some say do it and others say dont, but fact is coated ones do run about 300 degrees cooler, than non coated and that is not a bad thing,, so decide yourself..

Coat=cooler
Even 304, 18/8 will rust.
FWIW I like ceramic on mild steel, and a plasma spray coating on SS.
