W212 coupe basically CLK underpinnings
for those interested in the E class coupe as I was before researching it,,
the new W 212 E Class coupe is designed to replace the CLK, and is a cost saving move by MB to consoladate the model lines to reduce parts etc..
so according to several car mags, who reviewed the new car,
and after I talked to a few MB techs, and MB parts guys,,
it seems as the new E class coupe, although having new sheet metal
and a partially redesigned chasis,, it carries many of the parts over from the 2009 CLK, including Drivetrain, chasis components, suspension components as well..
this is pretty disappointing, as people who buy an E class really want an E class with its beefier parts, and less compromise.
so its too bad the w212 coupe is essentially a CLK / E class Hybrid
I could live with the suspension components as the CLK has a great suspension, which is why MB races it in DTM and others,,
but the Drivetrain and other associated bits is really a downer
oh well, only time will tell, but this puts it in pause mode for me..
others will have to make their own decisions and opinions I suspect,,
we will see.. but, kinda lame... so far..

a quarter mile at a time
uhhhh and the W212 E-class has a new drivetrain how???? All the engines carried over from the W211 E-class, excluding the hybrid. I believe the 7G-Tronic is also the same unit unless you're talking about the new E63.

4 wheeled car.
As much **** as we're talking about the W211 today, tomorrow, we all know we're gonna rock on when our W211 go to heaven. Or maybe not. I think I'm gonna try and hang onto mine for as long as I can. I'd like to add a 997 one day.

Read the Car and Driver and Road and Track this month,
http://www.caranddriver.com/news/aut...hotos_and_info
also watch the Motorweek episode where they drive the car and review it,, it has alot of CLK parts in the drivetrain, and chasis.
I have a feeling the W211 is the end of a great era for the E Class.
hopefully not,, but seems so..
this is what the american car makes started doing in the 80's mish mashing platforms and parts to save money,, and look where that ended up..
it is what it is, we see I guess..

Having been in it and dealt with it up close its quite a beautiful car. It fixes some of the style issues I find wrong with the W212 E-Class (like the rear end).

[quote=CynCarvin32;3465103]You are basically 100% wrong but hate the car if you would like. It is based on the W212 and MB no longer will be backing the coupe chassis off the C-Class. The car brings back the E coupe and that is what it is... a coupe based on the new E.

well,, thats not entirely true if you talk to the MB tech and parts guys
and you read the CAR and Driver article and see the MOTORWEEK
episode where they review the cars, they all say the w212 COUPE
has alot of CLK parts from the 2009 CLK.. suspension, drivetrain etc..
I did mention above several times the CLK is discontinued,, for the E coupe,, but MB does use the CLK parts still on the W212 coupe
everyone seems to be in agreement on this
here is a quote form the latest review on CAR AND DRIVER on the W212
coupe
Car and Driver
"The new E coupe is not really a two-door version of the E-class sedan, but rather a blend of C- and E-class mechanical components. It hews to the styling of the 2010 E-class sedan—which also makes its official debut in Geneva but was previewed at an off-site event during media days at the Detroit show last month—closely enough that no one will question the relationship"
the Sedan, I believe differs slightly in this regard , still checking on this though

The styling has me a little confused, too. I know the rear wheel arch is some sort of homage to one of the old classics, but to me it looks too busy and convoluted (Bangle-ish?). Also not a fan of the mini fixed rear window - I would rather give up full roll-down capability to preserve the clean lines of prior CLKs.
