E63 Alcantara steering wheel?

Sorry if this is a repost--I searched & couldn't find anything.

Does anyone here have experience w/the E63's Performance Package alcantara steering wheel?

I love the look, as well as feel of alcantara...but I'm curious how it will hold up on the steering wheel. Also whether it will stain easily due to oils from your hands, etc.

I'm considering an E63 w/the performance pkg and the alcantara wheel but don't want to make a mistake I'll regret. I plan to keep the car for a good while.

Any experience & feedback is appreciated!

Alcantara is actually very durable. As far as steering wheels go, I would imagine at 100k miles, it may show some wear, but almost all wheels will at that point. And most likely, the steering wheel in the car you speak of is black, so that would take care of any staining concerns.

I can only respond to my experience with an M3 competition alcantara wheel. The material doesn't really tear up over time, but it does lose the nice soft feel in 25k miles. I would prefer a regular leather wheel at this point.

I have the alacantra steering wheel on my car and I LOVE IT. Alacantra is very nice to the touch (feels awesome), and the wrap makes the steering wheel a little thicker at the corners, which allows for a lot better grip (more comfortable, more controlable, more enjoyable ). So far, the material has been very durable and didn't get oily or stained (but then again, I never eat or drink in my car).

I believe the black series steering wheels are a bit thicker. They may also have after market leather wraps to make it thicker; I've seen some on e-bay a few years ago.

Check out Ebay Item number: 300285978256. Its the normal E class steering wheels size. You can only get the factory alcantara steering wheel with the performance option. Also the factory alcantara is one inch smaller or so. I think the guy from Ebay rewraps them, that why you get $500 back when you send him back your old steering wheel.

But you guys gotta check out the new 2009 CLS63 steering wheel!! See Attached pic. Imagine the alcantara version!!

Right on, thanks for all the great responses. I think I'll go forward w/the PP and alcantara wheel.

Factory P30, I love it, no problems, no stains, but I also keep my hands clean and don't ever have sweaty palms, so... I think you should get the whole damn P30. But you you already have the car, its nice to have, totally. I have an extra one that I "acquired" in case something happens to this one.
