I see a lot of moddified E55's with black front grills and noticed that the posts said they were custom painted black.

So I was wondering what color black they selected (paint code).

Also want black badges vs silver so wondering if anyone sells them.

gotcha...since i have yet to blackout my grille, im going to go on what I have read. spray paint is what i have read about so far. use the search tool at the top and you will probably be able to find DIY steps as well as detailed images.

A link for you to spend some time on:

However, i think this one will benefit you the most:

HMS uses Mercedes 040 black on the grille and orders new badges and paints them if you want them black as well.

Just call them and order the badges and they will paint and ship. You can ship your grille to them too. Ask for Ed or John.

I had my buddy at the paint shop paint mine. I feel that is the only way to get a quality paint job that will stick to the grille and have minimal rock chips. Spray paint does not bite to the grille plastic as well as the professional grade paint that is bakes on. if you use spray paint there is a very good chance you will need to paint it a couple times a year.

What I did was separate the chrome part of the grille from the black plastic backing. painted it gloss black but then used a Satin clear coat... I love it, the contrast of the satin grille attached to the OEM gloss black plastic looks great.

as for badges... buy some new ones off ebay, and have them painted too. I actually painted mine myself and they came out fine. I just scuffed them up real good and sprayed them with Krylon Plastic spray paint. Just make sure you spray realy light the first couple of coats and let it dry a good 30min in between.

good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

4 wheeled car.
To do the grill, have a bodyshop do it. But for the trunk badges, it's so easy to do at home, I did it myself. Get a rattle can of Rustoleum plastic paint in glossy black. I dont think I prepped the emblems I had anymore than just maybe cleaning them with alcohol. Then spray on, let dry and done. Do a few coats and your'e set. Badges should be cheap to buy, or you could always reuse yours, although the star is a pain to remove and will likely break when you remove it. Rattle can costs $6. Cheap as it gets.

Godfather, nice job! I really admire your car. I have an iridium silver cls55 and thinking of doing something similar. I want to have my brake calipers painted too. Will have to hit up HMS for that.

Can i ask what your front fender/side badges say, where the "V8 Kompressor" badges normally go? Perhaps a picture and where you got them from?

TIA.

i did it my self. I sanded my grill as a one piece sanded for about 2 hours then shot it with three coats krylon gloss black then one coat of krylon clear. it came out ok and have had it done for two months and about 2000 miles and it looks fine.
