Drag Radials / Wheels/ Slicks? Need experienced opinions.

I got down to 11.71@121.3 on 19" street and my 60' are consistent 1.82-1.85 range. I want to go below 11.5 so tire is my next move. I got a set of CLS AMG wheels with 305/35/18 Nitto 555R Drag Radials on them from DST FORGED.....who assured me they have E55s running that setup without issues. I test fit it and it looks fine and will not rub on inside, it may rub on outside quarter panel when the car squats. The offset of the CLS wheels and the fact that Nittos are narrow and have rounded edges make this combo fit, and I think I will go to Atco tommorrow and give it a shot.

I have been doing more reading/searching and I seeing people write that Nitto is great for "daily driven" drag radial. I dont need a daily drag tire, I want a dedicated track setup.

What tire/wheel combos do you guys recommend to get to that 1.6x short time? At this point I have two 18x9.5 CLS wheels available, but if there are better(smaller and lighter) wheels I can always sell my CLS/Nitto combo.

TIA

Your worst nightmare...
Best tires I have ran are the MT's 265-40-18s on 18 inch Koseis....1.6 60 footer on a soft launch. Jay cut a 1.5 on them.

I believe E55 Baller had or still has this same exact setup for sale. I purchase a set of Kosies 18x9.5 from him earlier this year. I'm also running MT's 265-40-18's.

thanks for the responses !!

I actually saw somewhere someone tried the 18x8...they seem to clear fine the E's rear brakes, I guess the largest tire you will be able to run is a 265...but who cares it only weights 16.5lbs..., not even CCW's could beat that weight...

I have the same setup as Mikey with the CCW's. If you want to keep your current rims, 265/40/18 will be just fine! I was out at a muscle car event in Ocean City this weekend on the CCW's and it was hooking pretty good even on the street! I never launched it off the line but definitely had a bunch of first gear low roll pulls and they stuck!

+1 here. Just LOVE mine. Think they shipped mine mounted with rubber and balanced for around 1500$, maybe a tick under.

Not bad IMO. Just tell um you are another crazy AMG guy. They are getting a kick our of us down there. They have the MT's in stock just for us.

Just call and tell them you want 16's for your E55, they know how to make them.

Mine was about the same price. I have yet to spin them at the track. No drama, just hook and go

FYI- They screwed up on offset of my wheels several times and in the end all I got was a crappy spacer But I think I was the first W208 to run them. They have fitment for W211 E55's already. I might sell mine if anyone local wants them

There's a lot of good advice here.

Here's my two cents...I wanted a wider tire so I went with 17x9 wheels and mounted 275/40-18 Hoosiers on them. Hoosier also makes 315/35-17 and 335/35-17 drag radials that have a small enough diameter to work with our cars.

The Hoosiers are incredibly light: only 21 lbs for the 275/40-18, 26 lbs for the 315/35-17, and 27 lbs for the 335/35-17.

My best 60' on them so far (total of 8 runs) is 1.70. That's not quite a fast as I've gone on regular street tires (1.69) but I'm still fiddling around looking for the optimal air pressure.

I agree with Mikey. Racing with Mike is always a good time. I've run the Hoosiers and the MTs. I ran my fastest time with the MT's and had a 1.567 60ft. kind of hard to go against the numbers. but both tires get my 255/50/16 is the size i use.

a lot of good advice here. thanks !

do you guys race in dyno mode or just TC off?

UPDATE: I did throw on my 305s last night. I drove around for about 50-60 miles and with the car raised there is no rub. With the car lowered, there is some rub on the outside. Going to try them at Atco tonight.

I would def get 16"s right away if there was acheaper alternative.

Anyone know if these will work? They are popular in the Crossfire forum in combination with MT ET Street 26x10.5x16

I was told they made them in the W211 E55 offset but we should do a test fit. I will let you know if I'm going to sell them

Do you spin with the Hoosiers at all? Why do you think the MT's gave you the better 60' when the Hoosiers are 7lbs lighter per tire?

I don't have dyno mode so I turn TC off. If I had dyno mode I would put the car in dyno mode but be very careful since everything will be disabled.

Good luck at ATCO tonight!

I would not recommend running a bias ply tire in the back and a radial tire in the front. MT ET Street is a bias ply tire, just get the MT ET Street Radial

I'm not sure if those wheels have the proper offset for your car

I got my rims from Tire Rack. I searched under a C230 that came with 16 inch wheels. $89 a wheel is what i paid. But I dont have big rear brake calipers though.
