Anyone have pics of mushroom filters?

You know, if you're really interested in doing something like this, (And I believe you are) I have a design idea that would smoke that mushroom using a K&N set up. I'd have to see what would fit but it would give much better flow and way more filtration area. Fabbing it up would be easy.

I never even considered doing this until this thread, but he's given me a great idea. I can use what I learned about intakes and fab up a killer intake.
Personally I think the OEM system is pretty darn good, other than the location of the filter boxes. But hey ... if guys want something unique that allows a short path to the tb, I'm game.
I've got a couple really cool tricks for it too that I know work wonders. Time to take some measurements and make a plug. ![devil](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/devil.gif)
Are the tolerances the same for E55's as they are for CLS55's ?

there seems to be a mix of opposing reviews about the foam filter.....and that's ok. i think it highly depends on where you drive. my GTI had an ITG drop in panel dry foam filter for about 22,000 miles and i cleaned it once and did not have any issues with it or the car. for the last 4,000 miles or so i put a bigger turbo on it and switched to a wet K&N cone filter that came with the turbo kit which also worked fine.

your filters are foam... they are not the mushroom filter (unless you changed them since you posted picture). i'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for and the HKS power flow filter has been tried and tested for years (look @ Supra forums, Skyline forums). no doubt you are overpaying bit for brand but the HKS is different then what you posted - notice the screws in the back of the HKS.....those are there so that you can open the filter up and change the filter element if you need to ( which is 20-25$ i think).
I was ONLY trying to save members here a bunch of money over products that look EXACTLY same when taken apart or otherwise, not to mention over Doulble pricing $$ on HKS silicone couplers...

The screws are ON the back of the Cheaper shroom filters as well & the filter completely comes out for replacement, just not pictured. I can take some pix of the 1's I purchased if you like...

I have all of my moulding removed and then some. Trying to fab a "box" to aim straight up. Also got a hold of a 95mm TB to try. It has electronics worked out but I'm scared of the driveability. It doesn't work with the Airbox so i gotta change anyway.

How does it feel? If you wanna take the next step just put some mesh instead of the filter like the turbo guys do at the track lol. Did you at least take the filters out the airbox so it could funnel "cold air" to the new filter?

car was actually in for some warranty work and he saw it in my back seat ( i have talked to him about it before) so he just put it on

i ran a net on my turbo before, the entire time i had the turbo setup on the honda(2 years) and it worked fine for me. i am not sure i would do it on this car due to slight variance in cost to replace engines ($500 vs $15,000). i am not going for breaking records, just wanted to do something different and get some sc whine too

Damn, now thats getting to the point! I still feel that a good deal of heat could build up at that point. If you could build an enclosure that would connect to the airbox, I bet the blower whine would still be a significant improvement and you would get more cold air to the filter. Send us a sound clip, am dying to know how she sounds!
Might be a good idea to do an initial startup and observe the filter when the engine is revved to see if there is any deformation on the filter element due to too much vaccum. I don't it'll be a problem but will be something to watch. The ideal solution would be some sort of mesh screen to prevent the filter from getting sucked into the S/C.

Awesome, but make sure you patent it so you can sell the mod for $2k like other vendors here do for things that may cost them $200 in material.
