Tire Recommendations
My recently acquired 07 E63 still has the original equipment Conti's, with about 2/3rds tread on the rear; they ride/corner o.k. and work fine in normal use, but the rubber has hardened, and they do not get much traction (as in spin out) through 1st gear when I push it. I've experimented with tire pressures, 41 PSI Cold seems to be optimal, but I have concluded that new rear tires are needed.
Having read the various threads/posts, I am leaning towards Michelin PS2, which work very well on my Caddy, but wanted to get a current read here on what folks have gotten. I want a good street 18 inch replacement tire that gets good traction in both a straight line and around curves.
Thanks in advance for your input.

4 wheeled car.
I love the Toyo T1-R. They are quiet and grip nice! I had Falken FK452's before (a few different sets, and all were really noisy in comparison. The Vredestein Ultrac Sessentas are very quiet too as the Toyo, but their design doesn't allow for tire rotation.
Toyo T1-R FTW!

i just got some Goodyear F1 Asymetric tires and they r great. i'm running 245/30/20 front and 285/25/20 rear and the ride is very comfortable and grips awesome. in fact, they r much more comfortable than the Falken FK452, which had thicker sidewall (245/35/20, 275/30/20).

Sumitomo HTR ZIII is a great tire if you're on a budget. Tirerack rates it very highly in its Max Performance Summer category.
If we want higher performance try Dunlop's Z1 Star Spec. This tire outperforms the Michelin PS2. Check out the tire test in the latest Car and Driver.

I have the same car and just replaced the stock Conti's up front and put my second pair on the rear. I went up to 255 on the front and 275 on the rear and did the PS2 Michelin's. They are awesome. So much better than the Conti's on the front, or Bridgestone Pole Positions (RE 050) on the rear. They stick so well - ride quite and provide execellent traction. I can't comment on wear just yet - they cost $1544 installed front and rear and are well worth the money. my .02

I have tried a few other tires, but keep coming back to PS2s.... they are very grippy yet very comfortable for everyday driving. Their only draw back is tread wear. But they do grip very well on the streets as well as on the tracks

But overall, the PS2s give me what I'm looking for. Quiet, good in the wet, and very predictable in handling. No stories, no unknowns.
I notice their true characteristics more on my 993 where I can really feel how the tires are working. Turn-in is very sharp. And they are predictable as to when they are going to break loose. Very little to zero sidewall squirm although some people say the PS2 sidewall is softer(?) The Porsche brings out all the idiosyncrasies in tires. The closest in terms of predictability were the Sumi HTR ZIIIs that I tried once.
I've tried a lot of tires over the years (like different flavors of ice cream; all very good but some just taste better.) The PS2s work for me and there are no surprises.
Don't expect long wearing. And don't use them in the cold; they end up like hard rocks.

I haven't tried them on my 55 yet. However, I've run PS2 and Z1 on my S2000 predominantly for street driving but also a couple of DE events. I felt the Z1 had sharper turn in response than the PS2 and really great grip for a street tire. The Z1 wasn't as good a tire in the wet, though.

Got a new question, I have the original E55 rims, the tires are 245 front and 265 in the rear. Is posible that I can put 255 and 285 ? or I have to change the rims ?

I do not like my PS2s. I spin just terribly even at 30-40 mph with traction off for multiple seconds.
I am thinking Toyo R888's vs. T1-r's. Which is better for max summer traction?
Will these rub in the rears? Has anyone solved getting > 275s on the rears? I don't want to go with 265s...so narrow for non stock power.
TOYO Proxes R888 295 30ZR19 100Y RD
Overall Diameter: 26"
Overall Width: 11.7"
Approved Rim Width: 10.0-10.5-11.0
UTQG: 100 AA A

RE: Tire Recommendations
Much appreciate the input!
I added the Toyo T1-R, and Goodyear Asymetricos to the list, am going to pull the trigger on a complete set next week....decisions, decisions.

RE: Tire Recommendations
Probably should have replied sooner. I have had PS2's on my car for about a month.
They are outstanding in the dry and wet and worth every penny of the price of admission. Optimal tire pressure for me is 41 front/41 rear cold.
These tires are highly recommended by yours truly for a street driven E63.
