you can ask your MBservice the datasheet of your car VIN
if you don't have access to their part catalogue EPC
.. and you don't want to have a journey under your car

you are saying i can ask the MB service people for a datasheet of my car supplying them with my VIN? is there a way i can just type my VIN online somewhere and find out which trans id number i have?

yes, the printout is one page of ID data concerning your car, including the Trans ID.

Ok here is my data card below, now do I have the blue top?
By the way, if anyone wants their data card just type your VIN number and I will be more than happy to post your data in here!

the deadline number that was given
was for trans 722.643.

now, you are talking about a C55 with trans 722.636 and further ID 06 192403

So, they are different things !

to see if there is a different deadline is necessary to make the same research for your C55 trans on EPC and see what it says about those valves ...

this is an interesting thread.

I'm thinking of replacing these as well in my C55. I can sometimes feel a tranny delay or slip from 1st to 2nd under full throttle.

I had some problems with the apply lever and 1-2 band in my srt-10 truck after installing my NOS. I would suggest that anyone with trans issues have the bands and possibly apply lever replaced when doing the valves since the valve change is probably just a bandaid fix for the underlying worn bands. I had to replace the valves in my srt-10 also a couple of times when it had a "hunting" problem trying to shift from 1st to 2nd at low speeds

Thread resurrection.

I have a pair of blue top solenoid valves if someone is interested. Tried them in my C32 but unfortunately, the valves didn't work. $250 shipped.

as per my data card, my transmission is
Transmission: 722643 06 009956

does that mean it has blue tops stock?

I haven't seen a CLS55 without blue tops. I'm about 95% sure you got blue tops already.

Since this thread has been brought back. I will say this. Only because someone may only read the new posts. The blue tops only worked on my slipping trans for a while. It seemed to fix shift slippage from gear to gear. However it only lasted a little bit. I ended up needing new clutch packs.

Other than that, I'm pretty far removed from doing this mod so I forget a few things. IIRC, Its only older 55's that had brown tops. Like most 55 N/A's and maybe up to 2005???? I know that someone who has an older 55 N/A, they will need to do a trans calibration thing with SDS/STAR.

My friend who owns an indy Mercedes service shop did this mod on his 210 E55. He re-calibrated the trans and the car shifts and feels great. So what I do know is, some cars with the old brown tops, will feel jerky down shifts. Meaning, as your car's RPM's will race a bit when you slow down to a stop light or something like that. This can be fixed with STAR, but I have no idea how to do it. Although my friend does.

Just want to make sure before we expose this to a whole new set of guys. The info for years of people experimenting with these is that a few guys that have experimented with valve body and solenoid mods have reported some toasted trannys.

Just word of mouth and I have no proof. Mod at own risk on this one.

Just relaying info that I have heard over the years.

Old guy signing off.

I haven't checked EPCnet in a while, but I think the brown top part number is now replaced with the blue top part number. I could be wrong.

As the OP'er of this thread (Back in my Hooleyboy days), it now seems as if the title is misleading these days. It did solve my trans slip issues, but only for a short time. It was like a band-aid.

If someone with Brown tops did this mod, I would have the Dealer do it. Or a shop that knows how to calibrate the trans via SDS. Not a shop that says they know how to do it, but a shop that has actually done it with success. I know of one shop in AZ that has done it with success and that Attwood European in AZ. I'm sure there are more out there though.

By biggest gripe was the downshifting causing the motor to rev you where slowing down.

i just checked my Trans ID and it is 722643 05 882066

so, if I correctly understand, my last six number is bigger than 247135, meaning that I have those valves already

... indeed I am satisfied enough of my gearbox
but wilder would always be welcomed, especially because we can always set it to Comfort if it's too much

in any case, thanks again Hooley for the great search

... waiting for next discovery
Hello all, I was just wanting to verify that all transmissions under serial number ending in 247135 have brown top solenoids and above are blue top solenoids.

My trans number is 221592 in my 06 CLS 55. I was looking to get a deep trans pan at next service in spring and was looking to change out my solenoids to blue if there were not already. I have TCU Version 1 by Zerocat101 and blue top solenoids are recommended but was looking to get the SLR tune he has which need blue top solenoids. Thanks!

Hello, just wondering if anyone else could verify that all transmissions under serial number ending in 247135 have brown top solenoids and above are blue top solenoids. I have a 04 CL55 and according to this I have the blue tops.
Thanks!
