Exhaust mod done - bye bye mufflers **+sound clip**
***EDIT*** : Here's a sound clip I made last night. NB - apart from the first bit it was recorded from inside the car driving home from work. Wanted to give you guys who are thinking of modding your exhaust what it sounds like from inside. The recording isnt great and records a bit quiet but hopefull it helps out

hey guys, finally had my local exhaust guy have play with my system to chase a much sweeter note. Whilst the end option was very basic, we tried various setups including resonator/cat removal + standard mufflers, stock + aftermarket mufflers, etc etc. In the end we decided to go with what you see below which was as simple as a cut/weld and some fab work. It might look a bit caveman-esque and not to everyone's taste - but it sounds amazing, and if/when I ever decide to sell I can just weld the stock system back on (as compared to the gutted mufflers which my guy talked me out of). Yep, its quite loud but not overly so, and still sounds 'exotic'. Cruising you get just a hint of a burble and then foot to the floor sounds off the planet. There is even a nice crackle on overrun. I'll make a vid in the next couple of days for the sound. Re the tips -they are just straight ended 3" pipes (as you can see). I was going to put the AMG tips back on but they are pretty much impossible to cut off the stock muffler unless you have a plasma cutter which he didnt have. I didnt like any of the other tip options that were available to get today so I decided to leave it as is for the time being. Personally, I like it - very E39 M5 like. If I decide to keep the straight pipes for tips I will either get them ceramic coated or, more likely, get some titanium pipe for the ends which will give a cool flamed look. Either that or I will just spray them black which would look pretty cool as well. Anyway, thought I would post up some pics. Last thing - if you are even half thinking the beast is a bit quiet - get something like this done, being able to hear the engine is just amazing.
chop chop - no more muffler

I can't wait to hear it too. I think oval tips (like stock) look the best especially because the bumpers cut-outs are pretty wide and the diffuser just exaggerates the width.

the 'interesting' bit is going to be how well I can sneak her into the garage tonight without fighter command finding out. "....um no honey I havent done anything to the Merc, just needs a service..running a bit rough...but hey your hair looks nice today...."

Wow nice simple mod - should sound v good. Let us know what it's like on a cruise at 70mph and if there is any drone...
Personaly would have liked the tips closer together, but still looks good as is.

Work and craftmanship looks top notch! I agree after time those tips may tarnish or develop rust spots. I would look into having some titanium/chrome tips welded on for aesthetic purposes.
Also you could have installed electric cutouts onto the stock system and achieved something very similar. And it would have given you the option of being quiet whenever you wanted to.

thanks mate - from one of the Taiwan sellerrs off ebay. Is actually a nicely made bit of kit - bought that together with the front lip spoiler. Had them both professionally installed and with the diffuser they decided just to stick it straight onto the OEM one rather than remove it. Gives a nice 'lip' at the back.
Benzoboi : yeah thats what I'm going to go for. thanks for the pic - I'll print this out and take it to Alex and say "do this"!

thanks guys, loving the new sound. Hey Benzoboi - what size inlets are on those titanium tips? - My internets search could only find 2" in for similar tips (I need 3"). cheers
