I'm hoping this will be a fun thread where we share some stories so lets try and see how it works!

Ok so I know there are tons of threads about running into non AMG cars badged up. Today I was driving in San Ramon when some guy who had that "I'm a ***** naturally" sorta face. He was driving an older CLK 340 or 430? Sorry I don't know CLKs but he blows by another guy driving a nice SL500 and me. I don't speed but lets just say I make sure I'm following the recommend minimum speed for the road +15. He gets caught in traffic and I pass him, only to hear him speed past me again to cut the car off in front of me. He then proceeds to enter the freeway and guns it. I catch up just to have him drive next to the car in the fast lane so I can't get by. Clearly I was annoyed because it's a fake car and I take pride in my All American Grocery getter! So I down shift and get next to him when there is an opening and gun it so he can hear what a real AMG sounds like and I cut him off just in case he's not wearing his reading glasses. I was a happy boy after!

So question what do all you true AMG drivers do when you see a fake one? Don't get me wrong I love Mercedes but a fake AMG to me is like a ricer. Sure I love when all those rookies that are delusional with their 300hp cars beat up on a fake one, only to drop their jaw when they get walked on by me. But are my actions correct or what is an appropriate course of action besides ignoring them. Do share!

if one of them ary trying to tease me or think mine is fake as his. i just hit it to show him it not, and then keep ignoring him. when he becomes desprate, i hit hard and mlow him away. making his face @@

There are stupid people driving all kinds of brands out there.

It's just a waste of energy getting involved, imho. I bought the car for me to enjoy and for no other reason.

I think 'true AMG drivers' just look the other way.

the same thing I usually do when some idiot in a restaurant gives me a condescending look for likely not wearing a watch and being in flip flops... laugh a little inside and watch their face if they happen to catch what credit card gets pulled out to pay the bill.


I'm far beyond the stage of patience in life to even deal with 80% of the population let alone try to prove something to them. If a trend gets obnoxious enough to REALLY **** me off I get serious, look at it as a business opportunity, pick the highest margin point in the supply chain and profit.

I leave them be. If they were an ahole that cut me off bad whether a poseur or not, I look for a chance to return the cut but I don't drive uber fast or crazy to find that opening. If the opportunity does not present itself, I let it go and don't let some loser ruin my mood. If my temperature starts to boil I just switch the radio off of 106.1 or 94.9 and put it on KOIT (for you Bay Area folks who actually listen to FM radio).

I believe there was a CLK430 AMG...so he might have been legit. Maybe someone else will chime in on this.

There was a clk430 amg, a friend in college had one, burgundy with gray interior.

I'm not 100% on this but I believe that the CLK430 AMG was just the 430 with AMG bodykit and wheels, not the whole package including the engine upgrades. So technically I would say it's not an AMG. I have a feeling that the 430 came with the bodykit and wheels as standard.

Just to repeat, I'm not sure about this.

None of the 'body kit' AMG cars would actually have the AMG badge. The badge is reserved for complete AMG cars. So, if it is a 3-digit car with a badge, it is fake.

folks many dealers place the amg badges on certain cars with the sport package.

And to cut someone off because of this? thats absolutely asinine. It doesn't affect you or your vehicle in any way, so who cares?

absolutely........my friend has an e350 with amg badges on it. its just the sports package..........not the amg engine

it's sad to see Merc ***** out the AMG name for sake of increasing sales. I also feel sorry for people that put the label on their cars without understanding what AMG really is. BMW has done the samething with the 550i by making it look like an M5 minus the real important stuff like the engine. I was an AMG badge car on the fwy the other day so I moved in to get a closer look just to see what changes were made to the car. Merc knows the E55 body style is classic. I actually like how the e350's look with the sport package. it was kind of funny because we were both checking each other out and the guy had a car full of people. It was a nice looking car and I moved on after a while. The sad thing is people that don't know much about merc assume that the lowly e350 is a real AMG. what's worse is that there are people that will tell the unknowing that their car is a real AMG like my wife's co-worker was doing with a cls500 AMG. so I let my wife drive my car to work to clarify things which was funny. My wife's co-worker had to back peddle and doesn't make the statement at work anymore.

I just let em ride by, give em a thumb up for a nice MB and realize that the envy they feel has pushed them to poser point.

Most people have no idea anyway. Infact many people at the track think the 6.3 is a V12. The associate the 6 with the 600 or 65. Boy are they mystified when told it is an N/A V8 and really 6.2x L lol.

It bugs me a little, but makes me chuckle at the same time. Feels great not having to think about (bet this guy knows my car is not a REAL AMG)

I was in the military...All American...so I just capitalize it, I'm not referencing to the AMG. Also I didn't cut him off I just was within reading distance of the badging. I normally drive like grandma on the freeway and take about five car lengths in front of a car before I change lanes just incase he's driving faster then what I thought. This guy was just being a ***** on purpose so I bent that rule a little.

i usually give them a weird look and then laugh.......and then take a picture with my phone while laughing. it works and they figure it out quickly

I get it all the time since mine is debadged. They usually pull up next to me to look for the Kompressor badging on the side and start to point when they see it isn't there. I'm not sure what they are doing when I stomp it...

Those in the know look for the calipers in de-badged sleepurs like yours, I indeed find it incredible how many fakes are out their. I commute to LA at least once per mo for work, the 1's that get me are peeps in their 50-60's driving rebadged base C class (saw an old lady by herself) tarted up C32 floating tips/kompressor side badges. Then a guy in late 50's @ car wash in w210 E500 ? no AMG body or ANY exhasut tips whatsoever or cut out in bumper to fit any, but badged E55 I got pix too
