As for the question of the Stig, they can bring their own professional driver.

It won't be after I'm done with a few things here and there...

Interesting. I'd love to know the outcomes. On a road course the only thing that will give it a run would be an M5, or maybe a 2010 E63 (the extra handling help will give it a better chance than the W211 E63).

The CTS-V is a pure monster, I don't think any Sedan out right now will beat it on a coarse, or even in a straight line, avg times to avg times.

But the event has nothing to do with a straight line, so you're trying to pound the square peg into the round hole here.

Bottom line is that Caddy is going to milk this short period of time before the next-gen TTV8 M5 is released, because this is their only shot at establishing some sort of superior performance record over either of the relevant competitors. You can't blame them, they're striking while the iron is hot.

Once the new M5 is out all bets are off. Gobs of torque and the chassis engineering that has made all of the ///M cars memorable.

I would venture that the S65 would dust it in average straight line drag times while the E90 M3 would take it on an average of european-style road course times. What do you recokon? I'm 100% sure about the first claim and about 75% on the second...

I agree with you on the first claim. I actually don't know about the second claim but am interested in looking it up. That would be a pretty strong feat for the M3, considering how down on power it is.

I love it when the 'blind' AMG crowd miss the point and fail to use logic. The CTS-V stock for stock will blow away the AMG sedan around the track. We aren't talking Indy 500 circle here. This car already beat the M5 and their is no way the AMG will out race an M5 on a track. The M3 may have a chance, but in a high speed track, the CTS-V will have the advantage. Cadillac is no BMW, Mercedes or Porsche. But as long as GM can grab the 'swing' owner so to speak they will be successful. With American auto design they always seem to make a great looking front, side or rear end. But it never fails to have a useless fascia, body piece, body molding or crease in a place that ruins the look. I feel American auto makers were realizing on the if they build it, offer subsidized financing they can market and use sleazy car salesman to sell the car to the public. Times have changed and it is difficult to part money from consumers. I would consider the CTS-V Wagon, but it is too small.

Heck of a marketing ploy from GM.

They’ll likely have professional driver and chassis development engineer John Heinricy – who’s piloted an ostensibly stock CTS-V to a sub-8:00 minute Nürburgring time – behind the controls again.

Shouldn’t stop AMG from having Arnd Meyer drive Affalterbach’s latest though.
Note that all competing machines are to be stock, ruling out a fair portion of those here.

edit: seems Jon2007E63P30 read the fine print too.

I have the Road and Track issue 10/08 where the CTS-V beats the M5 around the same track. Heinricy drove the CTS-V and Bill Auberlen was drove the M5. Keep in mind however that the M5 is 4 yrs old.

What they should have done is switched drivers give each a few practice runs and run again - results would be interesting. Still, the AMG is no match for the CTS-V. The M3 and M5 are sweet cars and built more so for the track compared to AMG. Different cars.

From the other post about the 2010 E63
UK Car Magazine
______________________Lap time
Merc E63........................1.36.22
Mitsu EVO FQ400.............1.36.44
Porsche Panamera Turbo...1.36.83
Caddy CTS-V..................1.38.85
Audi S4..........................1.39.07
Jaguar XFR......................1.39.37
Vauxhall Insignia VXR........1.43.53
This is the one car that I think might take the CTS-V. Also why this contest is over before it is commercially available in the US.

8:02 Mercedes CLK 63 AMG - Black Series

If the CLK black can't beat it, it doesn't look too bright for the w211. The CTS-V has a supercharged 6.2 and a manual transmission, not to mention the super pro test driver.. Wow that is a fast caddy.

The Black Series will kill it. Bernd Schneider went 7:45 at the Ring in a Black Series.

black series wins -- big deal == price tag is outragous
i rather have the CTS-V slightly beat the Euros...

black series wins but so would the CTS-V because it took a car that is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to beat it.

What about a C63 with a tune?

I know it says "stock", but really the C was detuned from the factory, so a tune wouldn't really be against the rules.

I don't know if this would make it any closer regardless?

Give me a break.

Sorry, that is NOT stock.

The CLK63BS would beat it. Oops! No rear seats, not in the same classification. Sorry you can't play in this game.

Now
2010 E63 P30 - That's a likely winner.

The CTS-V is a pure monster, I don't think any Sedan out right now will beat it on a coarse, or even in a straight line, avg times to avg times.
u know they got some BS video out that had it clocked at 113mph on 1/4 mile and they raced a e60 m5 and the m 5 clocked 119 . thats bull**** , u can barely find a modded m5 to hit 119 on 1/4 mile

You really think the Caddy is going to hold up to track use? AMG warrantees' the BS even if it's tracked. It's expensive becasue it cost $$$ to build a triangulated seam welded chassis with fully adjustable suspension. The Caddy won't last three sessions at Willow Springs on a 90+deg day.

Interesting that the 2010 E63 has a chance but the W211 doesn't. The front struts may help, but do you honestly expect such huge gains?

Agreed that this is a good marketing campaign, but that is what it is. No props to myself, but I've never been one to back down from too many. My E55k with me in it was all over a Spyker with a factory driver sent from Europe. Not saying that driver doesn't matter, just saying more can drive than just those that are stars.

This would be a very interesting event indeed. I make no claims on where the E55k would fall so we don't need to fight but i would love to compete and just have fun. The CTS-V is a sweet ride.

Truth.

From what I have read, the change from the airmatic to a true AMG suspension in the front makes a huge difference.

I still think that every person who want to enter with only a little modification is just a.... entitlement liberal. The rules can always change to suit me. So dissolutioned.

GM is doing this for keeps. Bring your STOCK "A" game or go home.

Lets see... I want a stock 2010 P30 suspension and transmission with a stock 55 engine. I do admit, torque makes up for many errors in exit speed!

There are stock E63 my 10 available, this with a pro driver ought to be close

As an all round performance we knew the E63 would take some beating. Then we clocked the lap times and our jaws hit the deck - Merc beats Jag by 3 full seconds. The XFR is a born show-boater, but when you try to extract a fast lap, it’s just not interested. It’s the Paul Gascoigne, the talented lunatic that can't stop partying.

The E63 can be coaxed into sideways antics with equal confidence, but it'll do neat and quick no problem. It’s Freddie Flintoff. Might steal a pedalo in a moment of madness, but its just letting off steam, not forming habits.

The way such a heavy car stops, steers and flows on track is hugely impressive. It's almost as laser-guided as the 4wd Evo, Panamera and S4, yet as laughably exuberant as the Caddy or Jag. And faster than every single one of them.

It excels in Yorkshire too. Go hard over the crests and dips that cut across this peaty landscape and you'll feel the adaptive dampers react more abruptly - even in comfort - than the Jag's, but it’s still a perfectly nice ride. You'll also spot that the V8 is the best engine here. It's blindingly quick with a more multi-dimensional soundtrack than the flat forced induction opposition - a juicy wob on start-up, a hard edged blat to the redline.

The auto ‘box beats the oppo, offering everything from lazy ‘comfort’ to the electro-intervention-is barred ‘manual’ and ‘sport plus’, which bonds with the fast driver like he's plugged into the ECU. Then there's a helm that's light and relatively feelsome; brakes that inspire more confidence than the still fine XFR's. The Jag in incredibly accomplished, but the E63 finishes in the points more often. That’s what counts."

Should say the E63 won the supersaloon PCOTY category.
