Here is for the full instruction for English speakers:
Go to:
Control Units->Information and Communication->IC-Instrument Cluster->Diagnosis to plant specifications->Control Unit Adaptations->Control Unit Adaptations (Variant Coding)->Variantenkodierung Werkseinstellungen (not menu)
Scroll to Tankinfo im Richweitenbild and select enable
Go to:
Control Units->Information and Communication->IC-Instrument Cluster->Actuations
Carry out control unit reset
I personally did not have to do the second step but I did do some other stuff that may have caused it to reset anyway.

You have to reboot "Kombiinstrument".
to do this in Developer mode we go back by hitting F1 -> 3 times
then choose Ansteuerungen -> Gesamstliste aller Ansteuerungen ->
Scroll down untill you see the line : Steuergeraet Resetten (PowerON-Modus) (FN_Reset_SG_Power_ON)
Press F3 and confirm again with F3
Now you will see the "Kombiinstrument" reboots

Hey STAR gurus. We have adjusted my 07 e63 a few times with STAR without issue. We went for a third time to even it up and now it won't retain the settings. It isn't particularly low and the STAR system says that the settings were succuessfully saved. However, after making adjustments via the raise/suspension buttons, the car lowers back down to a point significantly lower than where we had it set. Any ideas? Thanks. RT

Anyone know if we can get '14 E-class tail lights to ROW? Distaste for brake lights acting as turn signals as well, especially since there is a dedicated amber turn signal for ROW. Currently the clear/amber strip is unused. Can this be done with star diagnostic?
Around 2:55 is what I'm trying to achieve for my USA E.

so for some reason my car can't be star lowered on my passenger side. My drivers side is perfect, but for some reason I'm sitting stock on the passenger side. The voltage is at the lowest possible setting allowed. Am I doing something wrong?

Anyone clear something up for me? Hard to believe after owning four W220's, and having probably spent more time working on my car than driving it, that I'm only now planning to get an MB STAR.
I've done a HUGE amount of reading on this, and the best way forwards is reasonably clear: Dell D630 + Internal HDD + C3 Mux + Cables + SW (and never connect to any network)
However, I'm not so clear on what software I really need. Sellers don't help much - often leaving out some or all of the utilities - its rarely clear exactly what you're buying. These are the important ones that I know about:
1) DAS: Diagnosis Assistance System
2) Xentry: New software released after 04/2009
3) WIS: Workshop Information System
4) EPC: Electronic Parts Catalog
5) ST Finder: Part location finder
6) STAR UTILITIES : Movement management system
7) SD Media : Video and PDF lessons
Xentry is often missing, but I'm not sure if I really need it. My understanding is that Xentry is needed for all the most recent cars. The complete suite would be nice, but realistically, I'm unlikely to own a 2009-up car for some time. Will DAS give me what I need for diagnosis and trouble-shooting?
Can anyone clarify what Xentry gives me?
Cheers, Nick

Xentry is the new Das system. Try to get it since you are making the investment anyway. You can go with the external drive route, that way you can use other laptop. I do recommend the Dell 630 because the serial port laptops are easier to setup, but any laptop will do if you do the external drive and a USB to serial cable.

Say, has anyopne used other laptops - besides the Dell D630 - when using an internal HDD?
My clear impression is that you really need a serial port, which largely died out when USB and SATA ports became commonplace
However, there are several reasonably recent and capable laptops that have serial ports:
Dell D600 D610 D620 D630 D820 D810 D820 D830, some Compaqs, and the Panasonic Toughbook CF-29
Besides those the Dell Precision M4300 and M65 also have serial ports, and they're a cut above all the others. They have SATA HDD's, but so what?
Has anybody used those with an SDS?
Thanks, Nick

I've been trying to work out - why the D630? Yeah, its got a COM port, but I think the real reason is simply that there are so many of them out there.
These days, most SDS sellers sell the SD Connect C4 multiplexer, which doesn't use RS232. Yet the HDD is usually still for a D630! So it can't be because of the COM port.
I've read a lot of SDS sellers websites and listings, and they often show a picture of an IDE HDD, and I subconsciously assumed the D630 had both a COM port and an IDE HDD, and that was the reason. But no - the D630 has a SATA HDD like everything else. So it can't be because of the HDD.
It makes sense to sell a MUX with an HDD, and fit that to PC. But of course the HDD will run the OS and all the drivers for the PC. If the HDD only had Windows XP and the SDS SW, the user would have to find and install all the drivers, and the seller would get too much hassle for that. So I think the real reason is to standardise the image that's stored on the bundled HDD.
If you're prepared to sort out the drivers, my guess is you can use any laptop.
Make sense?

Not sure why people always use HDD and buy old laptops to run these archaic HDD. Here is a video of mine. I run a virtual Machine on Mac Book Pro. It runs faster than ANY machine I have tried to install on before. It can suspend and recover really quickly. The video shows me running DAS simulator which runs the same speed as when connected to the car itself.
I run this with a USB dongle. Have run like this for a couple of years now. Nice thing is, I can easily capture video and screenshots whenever I want … try doing that on your old Windows machine![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Only downside is that it takes 80~100GB of space on your drive. But basically it is a separate machine and does not interfere with your regular machine

Just ready through all 28 pages but still confused.
So now Xentry is the latest/best system to use and not STAR? Where can I go buying a COMPLETE diagnostic system? Even if it does cost a pretty penny.
I am having airmatic faults on my 2006 e55 and need a good diagnostic system, so I a willing to invest. This is my first Mercedes.... Used to BMW's and audis.

AIUI Xentry is needed for post 2009 cars.

Has anyone noticed that the Chinese MB Star sellers have started to include Z-TEK USB to Serial convertor cables with their SDS systems?
People have long said that the laptop needs an INTERNAL serial port, and that convertors rarely work properly (like many legacy commercial PC interfaces). They must have figured that the Z-TEK cable does work, so there's a way to run SDS on any laptop.
I got some clarification on this recently, and was told you still need to use an external HDD if you're not using a T30 or D630.
That's a lot of cables. If a USB or ethernet port can interface to the PC, the car should have a USB or ethernet port. SDS hardware really is a hideous anachronism.

I'm pretty convinced of that, though none of the SDS sellers will admit it. They insist you have to use a D630, but they never elaborate. I think language is too much of a problem. I suspect its because their HDD's have to run Windows, and that causes problems when you use a different PC. Sort the drivers out, and Windows will run properly (at least Windows XP won't be too upset).
My next assumption is that if you have Windows running on whatever PC, the SDS applications will run regardless - they're not affected by the hardware underneath. That's where I'd like to hear about other people's experiences.
As it happens I've just bought a D630 with some misgivings, as I have lots of other lovely laptops with much better hardware that I'd rather use instead.

Hello fellow MB owners
I just bought a 2004 s430 from a guy in florida and it's an absolutely beautiful car and i love it (except the gas mileage). I have one problem....when i reach a certain speed, the car has a knocking, hard vibration. If i back of the accelerator or speed up, it goes away. I am new to this site so hopefully i am in the correct place to ask this general question.
I appreciate any help or ideas as to what this problem could be. Also, does anyone know which fuse is for the blower motor?

Hi, and welcome to MBWorld.
Your car is known generically as the W220 model, so the best place for help is this forum:

SBC Reset and Counter
Hi
Thought I would chip in. I bought so far 2 star c3 from www.ucobd.com - the 7 cable version. Both units worked without a hassle. I am running it in a dell d630. However it can be used in VMware or virtualbox. I even natively installed it on an amd hp laptop using a ftdi usb cable with no problems. Just had to slipstream ahci drivers to the winxp cd. VMware with a usb cable runs very slowly even on a high spec i7 laptop. If you use pcmover to install natively on the laptop, it will work fine with the usb cable. However I installed das 2008 on a 1.6ghz atom netbook with the usb cable but it runs very slowly. I have das 2008, 2009 and 2012.
I tried installing xentry/das in windows 7 but could not get it to work. I also tried a few tricks to to use it wirelessly, I bought a rs232 to wifi and rs232 to Bluetooth. Unfortunately both systems didn't work. I bought very cheap units on ebay, I guess the higher quality versions will work, but then might as well just buy a dell d630 as it really works well.
SBC Counter and sbc reset:
I got this info from another forum, cant remember where though, so I take no credit for this.
RESET SBC SERVICE LIGHT:
Engine is running.
In SD Developer mode you need to go to:
Entwickelingsdaten (developer data) ---> ansteueringen (control gear) ---> Gesamstliste aller Ansteuerungen (complete list of all the control circuits).
To see how many times brake has been pressed there is a line that says: Bremsenzahler (DJ_GetBrLive) (brake payer (dj_getbrlive)).
Then 1 line down there you see:
Bremsenzahler aktualisieren und Lebensdauerzahler F neu berechenen (brake upgrade and lifetime payer payers recalculated f) -> click it.
Parameter uINBR = 0 then click F3.
1 line down you see (or search for this line):
Bremsenzahler auf beliebigen Wert setzen (DJ_SetNBr) -> click it.
Parameter uINBR = 0 then click F3 then scroll down until you see the line's: Lebensdauerzahler F neu berechenen (DJ_CalcLiveTime).
Parameter uINBR = 0 then click F3.
Lebensdauerzahler F neu berechenen und schreiben (DJ_BuildAndWriteF).
Parameter uINBR = 0 then click F3.
Log out of SBC. Log out of vehicle. Let engine run at least 10 minutes.

The pics are low quality as I took it in the dark without flash but its viewable enough to know where to go. This was das 2008 natively installed on an acer atom netbook, using a unitek usb to serial adapter, it does work, but slow.
My brakes counter is 462 000.
