Beat a 997 Carrera

The other day I was at a stoplight in the far right lane of a three lane road. I noticed a yellow Carrera behind me who then pulled to my left just next to me at the light (I know most people do that because they want to beat the other cars to Ralphs on the right side of the road so I suspected he wanted to do the same. People in Anaheim Hills are pretty aggressive drivers).

I told my sister-in-law to hold on and to put a lid on her coffee cup. I put the transmission in sport and 1st gear. When the light turned green we both punched it at the same time.

In first gear I pulled on him so he was about a half car length behind me. On the next gear change he was starting to fade. We reached about 75mph in this short run and of course we missed the turn-in into Ralphs.

I don't know much about Porsches (aside from turbos) but I know the non-turbo versions have less than 400 hp so I was expecting to pull a few car lengths on him. However it was a very short race so I suppose if we went a full quarter-mile or more I would have pulled on him more.

This was the closest race I've had so far. I've murdered SRT8s (300Cs, Chargers, and Jeeps), 350Zs/G35s, stock and lightly modded Camaros and Mustangs, modded 535, and a few others I can't remember.

Go AMG

You very well should beat that car. If that porsche was being used for what it does best (like how you were using your car) it would be a whole other story.

+1

Also was it a C2? C2S? C4S? (the 4 is a bit heavier than the 2S) The C2 is an easier win, but the C2S is harder. Also the person had to push a third pedal and move a stick (unless they had a tip)

997TT would be a whole different story, too.

The results aren't surprising, but a fun kill nonetheless. A 4000lb+ 4door beating a 911 light to light, go AMG.

And +1 to the comment about apples to oranges. Go to Streets of Willow and the 911 will embarrass every MBZ on this forum.

You should have walked him easily ... Oh sorry thought you had a 55K

Joking..!!! but nice kill anyway, still think you should have pulled a bigger gap though.

Don't ruin a perfectly good kill story with a bunch of logic and reason

i cant believe u let a human being ride in your car with a coffee (or any drink) without a lid...

you mentioned you beat chargers. hopefully someone can help me with this scenario. i was on I95 and a charger can barreling up behind me. I was doing approx 75 or 80. He switched lanes to pass so i figured i would be an *** and step on it and not let him. the moral of the story is he passed me with ease. 80 to 140 he made me look like a little girl. luckily i was alone because my tail was between my legs. either my car is having problems or he was nicely modded. what do u think?

Your intercooler pump is done and needs replace or the charger was modded.

The same thing happened to me with a dead pump, replace your I/C pump asap.

Unless I'm missing something he has an E63.
The Charger post reminds me of this video I recently came across.

I looked up the specs for Carrera with the base engine supposedly it goes 0-60 in around 4.8 seconds so it's pretty close at low speeds and I beat it as I should have. I'm using the base model for comparisons sake because I know the more powerful models would have got me. I'm sure if we went further the gap would have increased.

I'm not sure whether it was a C2, C2S or C4S. To me most Porsches look the same. It's the details that differentiate the models but I've never paid much attention to them

I usually don't do that but all of my sisters-in-law were at my place and they were begging for coffee. Things get crazy when there is so much estrogen in the house

All my races with SRT8s have been up to 90 -100 mph and I've put a few car-lengths on them. All the ones I raced were stock so the only way you were beat was if: 1) your car was not running right; or 2) his car was not stock.

Like you said, its hard if you don't know which 911 you were dealing with. Could have been an S with PDK tranny. would help him a lot on the launch. A base carrera you should murder.

I've had my E55 for three months and I'm still learning the car. I can say tho that the thing is a BEAST and there are not many cars out there that you cant beat. Its that damn TQ, its power ON DEMAND.

Oops, forgot the e63 and water pump thing. That Charger must have been strongly modded, or you should have purchased an e55.

Good run

I know that intersection very very well. Were you at the Santa Ana Cyn cross or the one up closer to the Ralphs? It seems like there is always a car that wants to run up that slight incline or the one up Serrano too.

I would suspect that if he had a PDK he would take you from a dig but up top it would be a closer race... if he was rowing your mash and go would win unless he hit all the shifts.

Look for me sometime in one of my rides ... except the IS-F which I wont drive Id like a nice E63 run ...

That's where it was, on Weir Canyon at the stoplight just before Ralphs. I've made most of my runs against the SRT8s on Weir Canyon going south from Serrano.

I've never seen you around, especially your GTR which I would never miss. I would never think of running your GTR but your M3 with mods would make an interesting run

I agree, the GTR and 997TT are probably not cars to run into, but the M3 is a scrapper with the DCT. It shines nicely with the shift speeds. What color is your 63 (not sure if you posted it)?

When my brother got his E55 ('05), my SRT8 was stock; he walked me easily -- it wasn't even close. Then, I got stage1 heads/cam, with a dyno tune, putting down 440+whp. I would race him all the time, and it was pretty close. I'd get him down low, he'd start to creep on me around 100 mph. So, an SRT8 with heads/cam can hang with an E55/E63. Stock-for-stock, it shouldn't be close.

My brother (Nxtremejeep) then get a pulley/tune combo, and now he again blows my doors off.

Somehow your story racing with a passenger, traffic around busy intersection does not impress me. Are all these cars owned by 18year olds?

Properly driven that is without question. However on any given DE weekend the lesser experienced drivers in 911's really struggle due to the steep learning curve. It would really depend on the driver as much as the car.
