04-06 E55, big difference?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I am looking to get a E55 and I want to know if theres a big difference. Should I save some money and go with a 04, are there any major improvements or things I should know about.
Thanks

A couple of differences are the center console and the nav system were changed with the 05 model, but some 05's still have the earlier style console. IIRC the 05's didn't offer a solar panel with the pano roof. I'm sure there are additional changes that others will add.

I know i am searching! Bye the way I love the look of your car....
The prices in the US (I am in Canada) are so cheap its almost a no brainer to buy one now! In Canada 05 E55's are going for mid to high $40's. I can pick up a 06 for low to mid $30's in the US!!

I would check the curb weight, if that matters to you.. I think the 06 are generally heavier.

Damn! I just checked on shipping for a guy to Canada. It would cost me $550 to get it to the border and then about $1200 the rest of the way to his place in Montreal. I would buy one here, fly in and srive it home! Thanks by the way!

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
One small thing you might consider is that, at least in my experience, banks don't like to loan out money to cars older then 7 years (in general) so if you intend to sell it after a few years it may be easier to resell it if it's no older then 7 years. Not everybody pays cash. That would mean that an '04 car would need to be sold by 2011, '05 by 2012 and so on.
Just a general thought. I know this doesn't apply to everybody and every bank. My bank happens to be very conservative so your mileage may vary as they say.

I flew and drove 9 hours to get mine. It was a lot of fun seeing her for the first time in person!
Oh BTW. As far as paying cash I just meant that if you intend to sell it in a few years it would be a bit easier to resell it before it's more then 7 years old in case the next guy doesn't pay cash, not you. By then it'll be worth less but still, something to consider as far as what year to get.
I just know the bank gave me a big fat NO on a 2002 M3 and big fat YES on the 2004 E55 it was all age related

So all the '04-06 E55s had SBC and the '07-up E63 dumped it?
Relative serviceability of the two models? I'm inclined to do a lot of my own wrenching and have a decently-equipped home shop, don't mind spending some money for soft/hard tools but want to make sure it's even possible.
In looking at W211 wagons, don't much care about the cosmetic details e.g. pedals but COMAND and the mechanical changes along the way matter.

You sure?
I read somewhere and it might actually be here but it ranges from 3K to 8K and can only be done at the Benz stealer.
The cluster would need to be changed as well as it reads MPH.
I think there is a few more things but cant recall off the top of my head right now.

Some Differances
Just read in Europeon Car a couple of months back that the 2005+ Model would be a better car for the fact that it has a supercharger reliability upgrade as well as some exterior and possibly interior upgrades (changes). There may be more but that is all I know of, so go for the 2005 if you can.

I have brought many vehicles into Canada. Check out www.riv.ca to find out if its allowed, then get the VIN number and call MB to get the list of modifiacations required to register it in Canada. From my experience MB's are one of the most expensive to convert.
