How is the track prep for these events? I've been to Irwindale (1/8th mile) and that track is super sticky! (pulled a 1.9000 60ft on street tires )
The reason I ask is that I'm on the fence about going because of how much it might cost me if i have to get drag radials...I just don't want to make the trek out there without them and find out the track is slick and I can't get traction. Does anyone have any comparisons of famoso to irwindale as far as launching capabilities/traction goes? do they prep the track better on these private days than say the typical test/tune?
also, is there somebody with a video camera who would be willing to grab some footage of the runs? I can manage the in-car footage for myself, but it would be awesome to have somebody record from outside too
Either way, I will most likely throw my deposit in within the next week or so and see where things go from there. I have been meaning to make this trip for a couple years now and it's really weighing me down...this seems like a perfect opportunity (even if I'm the slowest one there)!

The problem is not the lack of VHT.... it's that we're running in very cold weather, which causes VHT not to stick well. At 75 F or higher days, Famoso is perhaps the stickiest track I've ever seen, but we're choosing to run in very cold temps to get a chance to run at a very low DA (for California at least). Either way, there were a lot of people running street tires and did well also, so it's all about adaptation and how well you know your car

I have only been to Irwindale once and all I remember is that it was way too crowded At Famoso, traction is decent, but not the best. I would definitely recommend a drag radial setup if you're going for a record run. Having said that, I did run on street tires last time and was averaging 2.0 in the 60' and also managed to sneak a couple of 1.9s in there .

right now i'm looking at either the bf goodrich ones ( this one), or the nitto 555R (link here). basically, i need something that will get me to the track and back home, so no slicks/semi-slicks. this would be for a 17x9 inch wheel
if anyone has any input on this, i'd greatly appreciate it. and hey, if you know of a good place to order them, that would be awesome too!

Sacramento will be very cold this Saturday with DA in well into the negative. You and Josh need to come back and meet your goals. We'll hit 11's for sure this time Mo .

Runnin at the track in negative DA's...one day...

I make a motion to move this to Sacramento and run in some serious negative DA. The chance is coming to run in some 40 degree temps, bright sunny clear sky's, and a nice a$$ tail wind. There will be well over a 800 difference in DA between Sac and Famoso, maybe even more. I get one chance a month to run and I really want my shot at some awesome weather. Let's give people something to really talk about!!!!

I second that, I want to make a stage 2 hit 11.3!

Hey Joseph, how's your weekend looking . The wife and kids will be flying to LA on Saturday morning to visit her family for a few days. I usually go but this year due to work deadlines I wont be making it. My point....I'm free on Saturday because the wife will be out of town . Anybody feel like playing????

Unfortunately, family obligations would prevent any drag racing this Saturday for me. They have this crazy notion that I should spend time with them during the holidays instead of play with my car
Trust me, I would rather have a 10 second slip than gifts or eggnog, but they think I'm crazy enough as is. We'll get out there soon enough and after Famoso I'll be down for a Sacramento run before the negative DA is gone.

I'm all for Sacramento as I work 12.5 hour days Friday through Sunday and would have to take 2 days off for Famoso to include drive time, etc. from Sac area. Oh well.
I was planning on hitting Sac on Jan 2nd but forecast looks like major rain. Who knows what will actually happen though. If I get rained out on the 2nd I'll go to this event I think. Make it a 40th b-day present for me.
