E55 S/C Idler pulley is wobbling--new bearing?

My E55 was making a loud whinning noise and was loud when it was warming up. It would make noise in 1st gear driving in 2-3K rpms when I'm in the parking garage pulling in to my spot in the morning.

I have 180mm LET pulley among other mods. I grabbed a 17mm box wrench and loosened the tensioner to get the supercharger belt off in about 1 minute.

Then I took the S/C idler pulley by hand and spun it and it made a little whining noise but I couldn't spin it very fast. So even worse was the thing is wobbling like a the bolt holding it on was hand tight! I checked the bolt and it was completely tight.

So I guess this is the dreaded bearing failure that is more common on bigger crank pulleys as it spins faster. Where do I get a bearing for this thing? The other option is ASP make a billet pulley but costs a decent amount and won't be available for a couple weeks at the earliest. What should I do? Thanks MB WORLD

Pretty common issue and easy to fix. The bearing is # 6203-2RS. Very common bearing, check the speed rating, usually between 12-15 thousand rpms. If you want the type of bearing used in the ASP, look for #6203-ZZ, rated at 17 thousand rpms. I would only use the ZZ version if you have a dust cap.
Hardest part of the entire r&r is removing the snap ring.

Where can I get a bearing from?
How much?
Can I just bring it to a machine shop to get the new one put in?
Thanks.

I have the exact same noises but when I took it the mb tech he said that prob the belt was slipping and that replacing it would rid the sound completely?

I have searched for 2 days now on chirping and other start up issues people have./? I still am not happy with what I find.

If I ask the dealer or mb shop to change the bearing how much time and or labor would I be in for?

Thanks again for help

I doubt the dealer would replace the bearing, they would want to replace the entire pulley. NSK bearing is $5.00 shipped on Ebay. Easy to fix.

I searched through the bearing failure with the videos and such. Mine sounds like a chirping noise when its just sitting still coming from the bottom driver side near the radiator. At first I was thinking it was the ac pulley and then I noticed even when off I would hear it. Driving the car when I slow down with any brake I hear it once the exhaust does not drown it out- Whining sound -/

I am hoping this is everything like what people are hearing and that the bearing will fix it for me.

It takes no more than 1 minute to check the idler pulley. Check the DIY thread on the procedure, you need a 17mm wrench and something around 4mm to hold the tensioner. While in there check the SC clutch play as well. Seriously, takes 1 minute tops.

I looked and keep finding the C32 diy's?

By the way my car has stage 2 evosport done too. I have a friend that is really good with this stuff and ask him if he can help..But if it needs a new pulley or belt I guess I will have to call evosport

Ok-thanks!! But I still think that I will have to find a new belt from evosport..One of the pulleys does not even get used-I think the belt is smaller and the supercharge pulley is smaller too.
This forum is a wealth of info!!

Good news I suppose on the bearings. How much play should the S/C clutch have. Its a little loose when wiggling it from side to side which I would assume some play is normal.

So how do you remove the snap ring and reinstall it, machine shop?

The pulley should have very little or no play. Snap ring pliers.

So I tried just taking out the bolt holding the idler pulley in but unfortunately I have to take apart the serpentine belt. Because I have a 180mm crank pulley I can't reach the tensioner on the serpentine belt unless I remove the fan shroud...So I got the crossmember and working on the fan shroud coming out. What a pain. The pulley and bearing are already apart as I started loosening the bolt holding the idler pulley and serpentine pulley behind it, and the idler pulley is just wobbling everywhere.

Thanks for the tip. How many bearings do we need? Thanks in advance.

I am new to this site. No i am a beautiful lady. I only know Jon on a business level. Like I said he had has worked on my cars. I have referred him to some of my friends who have exotic cars. And he has worked on their cars. I have received positive feedback. personally i have had a good experience with his company. I stand up for those who have helped me and done well on job performance. Sometimes what happens is people become jealous or upset with someone and they spread rumors that are NOT true. For example, I had this professor in college and people slammed his name on rate my professor.com. Put it this way if you where a disabled college student or you wanted an easy class you would want to take his class. Easy A lots of extra credit.

This seems fishy. Your very first post on this site spoke positively about Jon in https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...otoring-4.html

Now out of the blue you praise Jon's work again in this thread

Two other posts have some random comments presumably to start building up post-count.

And then a random PM to me with "hi"

If I'm incorrect I apologize but something doesn't seem right.

Since there are no aftermarket idler or SC tensioner pulley`s around, I had ASP make me an idler and also will run tensioner pulley`s soon. They are lighter, better bearings and look far better than the stock.. This takes care of a huge weak link we have with these parts and spinning them faster..

That stock tensioner pulley is flat out Fugly! Takes away from the CF cover /intake kit looks too..

Yep, something is just not right about this one. Building post count trying to stage a scam. Sorry if I'm wrong, but I have seen this many times over.
