That was my friends car, not sure what he was doing...Your transmissions work a lot different than mine. He said he had it in M in 2nd then just shifted all the way thru and let the tranny pick for itself..?? I had mine in 2nd in S after the first pass and let if shift itself. No, hanging in third after I watched it was really weird, he said something about that at the next light...

I don't know what the driver was trying to do but it either was:

1. He wanted to downshift after going full throttle and the car wouldn't allow it since he already was in a gear that was favorable to the engine's power-band; or

2. He was trying to upshift way to early and the car wouldn't allow it since that would take the engine out of its power-band.

If you start a race from a 40mph roll I would probably start in second gear and let the transmission do all the upshifting itself.

That's what I would do. M mode is good for a road course or if you are really adept at manual shifting in a straightline race.

Guess I kinda answered this already, but yeah he said he had it in M on all 3 runs...I only had mine in M on the first then went to S. The 63 has weird rev limit points. it banged off the rev limiter at 6900 in the first run gong 2-3, but in S I watching the 3-4 shift go thru at 7200. Lesson learned, my car knows when to shift better than me most of the time....LOL

I think we can all agree that a Ford Probe would have easily spanked both cars

I learned the hard way and killed a really good launch at the track,in m mode the car will rev until it hits the rev limiter and even if you push the button before the limit it takes a few seconds to shift and you will bounce off the limiter on an e55.

best way to race with a e55 is sport2 s2 and let the car do everything on its own.It will downshift to first if your going slow enough

With DR's on for sure...IF you can get that torque down for the 0-40, I would highly doubt a 6.2 will run it down. On street tires on the street, who knows. Traction can be a b*tch in those (i've driven a few). Most times, unless its really cold, if I brake load my car I can dump full throttle with no spin. Who knows...They are really even cars...Can 55's get away with 91 octane..???

Too bad our cars can't shift like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp09o...eature=related

The engine note between shifts makes me quiver.

I know it...Every time I hear those shift at full throttle, I want to drive straight to the dealer...

The 6.2 exhaust is what I'll miss when they switch to the 5.5TT

We need MCT tranny swaps haha I don't even wanna know what those retail for I do wonder why even the 7 speed doesn't blip downshifts. I rented a G37 out in LA a couple months ago, and just got annoyed every time that thing would blip down 4 gears in no time...

great to see this thread calmed down. Yes there have been a hundred threads, battles, pissing contests, videos.

I love both cars , I love the fact they are so different yet run equally. It will always be close and the outcome is always driver determined.

Both cars are masterful, enjoy and be safe

The 7 speed transmission does blip, but only on the C63 and CLS63

Next time out we should be able to crack 11's for sure .

True, but as MBForever said it is the programming that's different.

I believe MB modified the programming in the CLS and C since those cars will continue for another year or two before changes.

With the E63, there was no use in doing the reprogramming since they changed the transmission to the MCT for 2010.

I think the programming is VIN specific so you can't get the ECU programming from a CLS and transfer it to the E.

Very close race. I believe since both cars are so close that production variances and selecting the proper starting gear would make a difference.

Also, this video is from June 2007 and I'm not sure about the miles on the 6.2 but as it puts on thousands of miles the 6.2 tends to loosen up therefore resulting in better 1/4 mile times. That's why the 6.2 was putting down mid 12s when it first came out and now there are some in the low 12s and others even breaking the 12 sec barrier (11.9xx).

It's all good though, I'm more interested in seeing vids of the 211 E (5.5 or 6.2) beating Bimmers which is our competition.
