does wax ever expire??

ive had this great meguires wax for over maybe 3 years now and after lookin inside of it, it looks like its been kinda dried up (not hard at all). i touched it and it is still moisturized. (should i mix it up with a stick)

this wax is great but dont want to throw it away considering theres almost more than half of it left??

any thoughts from past experience??

+1 yeah it's just dried up. Use distilled water though.

I was recently at Meguiar's for one of their car detailing days.

The guy said that if you shake it and it comes out like the stuff has separated throw it away.

He also mentioned that if it smells bad, throw it away too.

I would just buy a new bottle if the stuff looked that bad. The stuff was formulated to work with the composition in the bottle.

I really wouldn't add distilled water to a wax to make it more fluid.

The Meguiar's guy also mentioned storing it where the wax gets exposed to high heat, like your car, is not a good idea too.

How weird! I just happened to find an old can of Meguiars wax today and wondered the same thing.

I got some car wash soap from Optimum Polymer Technologies. It came with a free bottle of their spray wax and at first I thought spray wax was junk as you really needed a paste but it works pretty good. Still slick after a few washes and rain.

Just spray it on and wipe it off, maybe buff with a microfiber towel and you're set. Takes maybe 15 minutes. It would go on after claying and polishing obviously. I think I might get some more and apply it every few weeks after I really detail her this spring. It's so freakin easy to use there is no need to not have a freshly waxed effect going on all the time.

That sounded like an ad. lol Back to work!

They do have a shelf life. I don't think there's any official period but if the viscosity or the look doesn't seem right after you shake the bottle I would say it's better off to get rid of it and buy a replacement. If I took a guess I would say a shelf life of 5-7 year seems to be reasonable.

I thought it might have been a paste. If it's a liquid toss it. Besides you can get a good Megs wax for $20 at walmart of all places. I'm in love with dodo juice supernatural. I use the machine stick and apply it super thin with a gold lake country pad. I've never used up a wax so paying $50 for a higher-end wax that I might actually use up doesn't really bother me. I'm a fan of Meg's gold class, but its separated on me as well, plus the supernatural goes on clear so there's no annoying white residue to wipe off afterwards.

Liquid waxes will go bad MUCH earlier than a paste-type wax.
