Service G due in 26 days

That is what popped up when I started the beast this morning. My question is I have only put 3k miles on it since purchasing it from the dealer. Its an 06 with 34k miles, so does it really need service or is this just because in 26 days it will be 1 yr since I bought her? Thanks guys

It means time that needs spent on the car not what the car really needs. A=1hr B=2hrs an so on. It is a joke and you can research it, it has been dicussed many times.

Wow so you only drove 3k miles in 11 months ? I suggest go to a good indy shop to do routine B service.... oil change, air filter change and check all the liquid, tires...... dont waste you money in dealer ship because in dealer might cost $800 +

Since it is a 06, I recommend a brake flush, along with the usual oil change. And replace your air filters, and cabin filter. Typically the letter corresponds to the amount of time it will take for the technician to service your car. So that equates to about 7 hours x 125.00 her hour for labor = and empty wallet. For an 06 AMG, oil and brake flush should cover it, ok check your Supercharge belt, maybe replace it. That should cover it. Sorry, if I expanded on what others have provided. No disrespect.

Are you kidding me?? That's ridiculous. This is the first time I've heard this.

Is there a way to turn these alerts off when they come up?

Not unless you have a Star diagnostics tool I think...Yeah Park Place here in Dallas said they really only do Service A and Service B, just alternate...

Service B involves a bunch of tests too, so most problems "should" show up in the test....Obviously no guarantees, but for the most part...

What does a G service include? Every manufacturer calls for service at one year intervals if you don't put on a lot of miles. Recently bought a car that had 64 miles on it and been at the dealer but they serviced it at one year.

An additonal thought. These are expensive cars. Surely a few (hundred) extra dollars for the correct service won't break the bank.. Think of it as cheap insurance. It's like saying you're using regular because premium is too expensive or ignoring your high blood pressure until it's too late because you couldn't see the damage it was doing until your stroke.

Its not only few hundred extra dollars, dealer can just charge $800 - $900 for oil change and check-up. The check up part is nothing, the just plug the computer and runs it. If your car has problem your car will tell you.
Its just waste of money to go dealer for anything more than B service.

Had to the same thing a couple months back - there's just something immensely annoying about those service reminders. Glad I could help.

I was wondering about this also (not having had to service the car yet since purchase) as I now have "Service C Due". I have a close good Merc specialist but I thought that the extra couple of hundred bucks you might have to give the stealership would be worth the Merc stamp in your logbooks coming selling time

OK well how much do all these flushes etc. cost at an independent shop $500?600? I've had these services at MB and they were about $500. You're second guessing the MB engineers. But hey, it's your car. Again like I said waiting for the error message to find out you have a problem is like waiting till you have a stroke to find out you had high blood pressure.

There are no diagnostic "signs" that the scan tool/computer can look at to warn you of impending doom. Either there is a fault or there is not. If something is broken, the DIC will tell you long before the dealer runs a "Diagnostic Service" or "Vehicle Health Checkup".

Changing fluids is simply basic maintenance and should certainly be done, but thinking that taking it to a dealer will uncover hidden errors(and believing that the techs will take more than 5 seconds to do an inspection) is simply false.

Agreed. All I'm saying is that I believe in following the MB service schedule and that it seems like a false economy to skimp on a few items here and there.

Goddamnit.

I was one of those idiots that took my car to a Dealer, which I had owned for just 6-8 months, and happened to be due for a "G" Service, with only about 3-4K Miles put on since I had bought it, and got raped. I only had 32K Miles and they did extensive Fluid replacements because the "time-line" showed it needed them.

I thought for some reason that if you don't follow these letters and avoid doing what M-B says is required/recommended, they can void your Warranty if a problem comes up.

Needless to say it was an expensive lesson. Cost just a few bucks shy of $1,000.

From now on I'm gonna do heavy price comparison, and not do anything that I think the car doesn't need.
