$500 is about right for this yes? I don't want to mod the car so guess I'm going this route.

Thanks!

If you're talking about the S/C clutch assembly, DEALER COST in Canada is about $1000 plus install.

500 is cheap if it is the s/c clutch assembly.

the s/c pulley and s/c clutch is built into one assembly, for what i know mb does not sell different parts of the assembly it is sold as one unit.

For that amount, I would bet they are referring to the s/c idler pulley.

I have the original SC clutch assembly from my SL55, but the bearing is toast and the clutch chirps. I think they are the same on all 55 kompressors. PM sent.

+1
My recall is the SC clutch assembly was $1,200 installed at the dealer here in Indy. I bought the part online for about $800. The dealer will not sell just the bearing.

Bingo - Idler pulley assembly is ~$500u.s. I fixed the bearing in mine for about ~$5. Check this thread.

I'm sure you will get tons of good advice from the guys on this board, but I will throw out a few thoughts.

First, if the C32 SC is like the 55ks, the SC is not engaged at idle so the noise in the video is not telling us much about the SC itself. Second, I just lost another clutch pack bearing and I can tell you it does make a chatter sort of like in the vid, but I don't think it was that loud. A telltale sign of a bad clutch pack bearing is blown out bearing race seal and usually a few of the little ***** are missing. Here is a pic. The seal or cover on your bearing looks fine.

I suggest you sit tight and wait for some good info from the guys on the boards. It will sure suck for you to replace the SC if it is not necessary. By the way, what are you calling the "BS" part?

sounds like your s/c pulley bearing.... take the belt off and spin all the pulleys by hand, one by one to find out which one is making the noise... if its the idler or tensioner pullies then its just easy bolt on replacement for under $100 used.... if its the main s/c pulley then you can replace the bearing and its a $80 diy job... i did mine a while ago and worked like a charm

you can also take the s/c pulley off the car and spin it in your hand as well to further verify that it is in fact the s/c bearing once you isolate that the noise is coming from that area and not the other pulleys
