Sorry for your loss, but it is what it is. When you mod, you take risks. They happen. Tuner can do everything right and it still blows.
I blew an engine on my C5 Corvette. Great tuner, did everything right. It happens. Did I ask for anything from him? Nothing. Nada.
I took the risks.

i had an LET tune on my car and my car ran strong. i was still not 100% happy with it because some things could have used improvement that LET was just not addressing (better tuning for the 80mm TB i had with driveability in mind). however after 3 retunes i got to a point where it seemed better and i just didn't care to pursue it any further, and my car was fast so.
however a car blowing up 80 miles after the tune is practically the same as it blowing up on the dyno in the middle of the tune. one doesn't have to be a genious to connect the dots.
melted plugs are melted plugs. the fact that they threatened Luis with lawyers is also a huge turn-off. if they are convinced that this was not their fault why worry if the story gets posted online? because it happened right after they touched it !!!

I was a little worried about EMOVING's comment about MHP, but your apology makes you stand out as a MAN among MEN ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
As far as Loco 05 E-55 Pistons go The one shown #104 (1) Has a shiny spot at the center top. on the edge of the flat. It is a localized hot spot That I've seen on other pistons on motors that I've repaired. It was definitely lean F/A ratio signature. in those engines
The other pistons with splattered alum & damage at the outside edge circumference is detonation , Possible combination of to much spark lead & Lean fuel / air mixture.

People keep saying this "tune" runs too "rich" as you argue the point it leaned out, and I agree. Unless i have reading comprehension problems or i saw these other comments in my head. Dumping too much fuel would just make you run much richer and actually lose power.
Maybe an injector failed and leaned out that cylinder....

Lol... WTF!!! Abusing his car because he had a few hot laps?? I've made several passes back to back down the 1/4 mile, runs up to 170, and 25 dyno runs in a single tuning session.
Loco, don't listen to such nonsense. There will be guys chiming in to try and blame everyone else except for who's really responsible. If people haven't figured it out by now they can't be helped... Lol.

Sorry to hear about your situation and I wish you the best in fixing your car. I tend to agree with the others that pre-ignition/detonation killed your motor. In the pics you posted on page 1 of this thread, the hot spot was evident and it looked like there was quite a bit of "salt and pepper" all over the surface of the piston. I think I'm gonna keep my '03 stock.

Out Of Control!!
Wow that sucks!!! I hope you can get some kind of resolution with the tuner. Now I'm super paranoid, just got some datalogging software today and will try and see what it's capable of. I already have a wideband but I'm concerned with timing, knock sensor activity, and timing being pulled by ECU

so. . . just to get this straight - blow an engine and the first thing you do on the new one is throw more mods at it. . .you just may be my new hero
.
Seriously, very sorry to hear about your troubles and very happy that you are in the process of getting everything put back together again.
Now for the stupid questions:
1) How do I check the tune to see if it its damaging, or potentially damaging to my engine? i.e. what data logging equipment is needed and what should one be looking for?
2) How would one remove the tune?
3) Since blown engines are a rare, how come more blown engines aren't being reported - especially considering that this tuner has been tuning like crazy recently?

That 3rd picture is pretty disturbing.
Sorry to learn about your situation. I'm also an LET customer and am now very concerned about my car's tune.

Damn. To the OP, that sucks and blows at the same time. I know that things can happen with tunes and all, but the response you said you got from the vendor was not a friendly one. Bringing up lawyers and blaming you because you mentioned a problem from the start? Who Let the dogs out?
That is some level of customer support and standing behind your product. Looks like you are getting it worked out, but at a very expensive premium.
Good luck.

One thing that would help everone out would be more education on what the safe limits are, I understand this is subject to opinion but for those that want to buy a data logger they should know what to look for. I'm by no means and exspert but in general this is what I would consider safe at wide open.
AFRS (boosted)
no leaner 12.5
no richer than 11.0
Timing
Varies based on HP but at around 500 whp
20 to 23 depending on fuel
More if your stock less if your making more.
If your seeing things out side of this I would at least start asking questions.
Lets here some other opinions of what safe is?
