CUSTOM CAT BACK for E63 AMG. Anybody done it yet with aftermarket Muffler.

Not looking to spend 3000 on a catback. Want to keep original system in case I sell the car. Anybody done a system with AMG tips and a 2 5/8 or sp catback with Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster etc??? Looking for a nice sound that rips when on it and not too much drone on highway. Seen a plenty of Kleeman and Meisterkraft etc for 3000.

Went to the mufflershop today...said just removed the resonator before the two muffler and the extra grunt will be achieved for 100 dollars instead of 3000. How does the respond with codes.

If you remove the resonators, you will NOT get any codes. The only time you will get a code from the exhaust is if you delete the primary cats. Then you will get a CEL. You can delete the secondary cats and you will NOT get any codes either.

Hope this helps...

i just removed secondry cats and did a 3 inch pipe all the way to the resonators and it sounds INSANE ! . I do have the Kleemann headers and 2 hi flo cats as well but the sound is awesome upon WOT . Under normal driving it does not lose that MB appeal and no droning .

Will a e55 still be able to pass smog with a secondary cat & resonator delete? Any power loss or gain?

Not to me, I had this done on my 63 and i think it is a night and day difference. It may only be slightly noticeable on the 55, but the 63 comes alive. I get crackles and burbling coming off the throttle. almost 0 drone at highway cruising speed. And wot is has great roar. Every car head that has heard it compliments the sound. All my m5 buddies wish they got that much removing their resonators.

in short doooo itttt..

I have a custom catback with Kleemann mufflers and stock resonators - even with long tubes the car is very civilized and you can hardly tell at idle.

I did a primary cat delete and I don't get any CEL codes, if you get a proper tune they can bypass the codes.

I was wondering the same question for the E63. I ask because MA is very tight with emissions.

Is this something you can reverse if you want to sell? I am referring to the secondary cat delete? If so, is there someplace in OC I can get this done that is reputable???

You can reverse this easy. Just go to any muffler shop and have it reinstalled. I would think almost any muffler shop can do this. You can try Kennys muffler in Cypress.

malakasnyc, I am having my Kleenmann Header install soon (with the 2 hi flo cats) as well, are you running the 3 inch pipe to the resonators without the X pipe?

Currently I just have the resonator removed with a X pipe in place, wonder which one I should do after Kleeman header. Afraid it may be too loud without resonator after the headers.

  1. Kleemann Header>Hi Flo Cat>X pipe>Resonator>Muffler

no X pipe - 2 -3 inch straight pipes from hi flows back to resonators . Leave the resonator in place it sounds mean enough and no droning at all . removing the resonator u will sound like a mustang .

I should of been more specific. Does the secondary cat removal throw a code? Would it pass emissions with the removal of it?
