Class Action suit - AMG wheels/Michelins
Just received a lawyers letter that there will be a class action suit against MB regarding the AMG / Michelin Pilot Sport combination due to MB's failure to 'notify the public' of the possibility of tire/rim damage and resulting crash hazard 'under normal driving conditions.'
What gives? People not inflating correctly, or is there really a problem?

Perhaps it's due to the low profile nature of the AMG rims/tires. They are much more easily damaged from potholes and bumps, etc.
Sounds like Mercedes should've given a disclaimer with the lower profile tires.
That whole law suit sounds like a load of BS to me. If you're gonna have performance tires/rims, you should know there are downsides to them.

SIGN ME UP FOR THE LAWSUIT. MAYBE I WILL GET A $12 OR $15 CHECK! WOOHOO!
Many people don't really "GET-IT"! They order sport packages and/or buy an AMG car, or huge wheel packages and think the car is supposed to be more comfortable or drive the same or something.
Driving a car with low profile tires and big wheels takes a change in driving habits and awareness. You must be totally aware of every roads condition, potholes and the potential for tire/rim damage, more noise, less tire mileage, more gas consumption, etc. I would never let anyone drive my E55 that is not fully aware nor understand the aspects of little or no tire side wall.
I also keep hearing stories of guys putting 20" wheels on cars, especially small cars and the car can not turn completely before hitting the fenders. What Idiots!

If you read the letter, it says something to the effect of increase risk to "everyday road hazards"...Which suggests these people are whinig that they nailed a pothole at 45 mph head on, iwht 18"+ rims...and then had to pay the grand to pay for the rim and tire.
Time to get over it...go buy a car with 14's.

Out Of Control!!
There was a similiar post in the CLK forum about this. I can't wait to see MBUSA's response... It should be something on the line of "If you would drive around potholes, you would not have these problems..." Like I said in the CLK forum, the lawsuit should be against the city, not the wheel/tire maker. AMG wheels are made by Ronal, and are of great quality.

No need for lawsuits against most cities.
There was an interesting discussion regarding this topic a year or so ago, and many municipalities and states will reimburse drivers for car damage due to potholes.
Proper forms must be obtained, location must be specified, etc etc but a couple people on this website have reported payment of over $1000 for wheel damage...I think one person was from NJ as I recall.
Call your DMV's/Roads Dept's before sucking it up and paying the bill yourself.

I got four of those notices....I think lawsuits like this are a crock of s**t!!!...make lawyers rich while we have to pay more for our cars!
It is stuff like this that could make MB pull back on performance options.
