is 20" safe for MB?

I've been talking to a few people from tire rack and local shops and they all tell me no tires with 20" can hold the weight of an E55 is this true or are they blowing smoke up my butt? i ran 245/30/20 front and 285/25/20 rears.. im looking to get new tires buy have 245/30/20 front and 285/30/20 rears... is this safe guys?? let me know...

on another note i still have two brand new tires one in front and one in back toyo t1r 24530 front and 285 25 rear if anyone wants them please let me know 97% tread left on them make me an offer i will consider anything.

They're not blowing smoke. Based on the curb weight and weight distribution of the E-Class AMG's the issue is the front tire setup for 20" wheels. The load rating of 245/30/20 tires is not recommended, it just seems to close to the spec limit with a really good potential of going over the spec limit when the car is loaded up with passengers. The load rating for 285/30/20 tires on the rear is okay, only the fronts are an issue.

Now, you could possibly do a 245/35 and 285/30 in which the load rating for the front is acceptable. However, it will increase the rolling diameter by 1" which will definitely effect performance, and induce rubbing issues.

I would have loved to go 245/35 in the front but the upper control touches into the tread and makes it basicly undriveable

I only have one front tire i threw the other one out because i thought it was unsafe to be giving to anyone even if it was for free... the threads were perfect not even used but the interior of the wheel was no good, i'll find out the price for you later on today of tomorrow for the shipping

if you have good new tires and dont cut around making shortcuts and buying cheap tires just to save money you will be fine with the 20s

Just saw the pics of the tire blowout. What are your alignment specs? The tire may have blown due to bad alignment.

I am rolling on 285/25/20s and 245/30/20s. No issues so far. Only reason for my blowout was due to a nail. Tires had 80% tread left, if not better.

If the toe is "a little off", it creates excessive tire wear. Improper toe trumps negative camber when it comes to improper tire wear.
