Hid bulb question

Well i just got my 03 e55 on friday and realized that night that one of the headlights is a different color. Drivers side is the oem im guessing because its whitish blue and the passenger side is like purple. I pulled the passenger bulb today and it says osram xenarc 66040, Im assuming that is the problem? I plan to get philips 85122+ bulbs tomm just want to make sure these are the stock oem color? Also the lock button on my remote is broken, I kinda wanted the new style one anyway. Dealership is the only place to get a new one?

HID bulbs will color shift over time.. When replacing, it is advised to replace both bulbs... This may be the reason for the color difference right now... When a HID bulb is getting ready to go out, it'll usually turn a very deep purple/reddish color... You can use any D2S bulb, stock color temperature is 4100k..

The 85122 is a Philips bulb and is 4100k, but I believe the car's oem bulb is Osram 4100k. The 85122+ bulb is a tad more whitish and I believe 4300k. If you want a white color go with a 5k-6k bulb or if you want a stock color go with a Philips 85122 because the 85122+ increased price is not justified between the two.

Actually, you may want to consider going to a 5k bulb... I'm planning on doing it towards the end of summer when the sun will go down quicker... Going 5k won't look much different in terms of looking straight into the projector, but the light output on the street will be a more pure white color, with no hint of yellow and such... You do loose a few lumen's by doing this, but it's hardly noticeable with the color shift...

Not too many. I would go with 6k instead because it is more common.

Check out this website...

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/HI...lacements-Pair

They sell many variations... I was comtemplating on ordering 5k bulbs from them... Personally, I wouldn't go 6000k due to the output being too purple, I prefer a nice white hue... My brother has a custom lighting setup on his car... He retrofitted Honda s2000 projectors in his lowbeam cavity, and Acura TL projectors in his highbeam cavity... He them purchased the 55 watt hid kits from DDM tuning and his lighting output is unreal... He's had them in his car for a while without any issues so I can contest that the product seems reliable...

For their 55 watt kits, they get regular 35 watt bulbs with 55 watt ballasts... So, in theory, their D2S bulbs should work just fine... I may do the 55 watt upgrade on my vehicle, not too sure if I would get errors in the instrument cluster or not since they use Digital ballasts... Check that site out, their bulbs are cheap and I can contest to the quality...

Also, if you click that link... Click on "bulb color" and it will give you a reference as to how 4000k looks compared to 6000k...

6000k is not purple but light blue and pure white. 5k is white but still has a yellow tinge to it.

Let me rephrase... 6000k is too purple/blue for my taste... I've used 5000k bulbs on my previous vehicles and it's a pure white output without any hint of yellow at all... It's definitely noticeable from the stock 4100k bulbs...
