Looking! (previous: CLS55)
Hi guys, I wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread...I just replaced my sensor, and it went smoothly.

I bought a genuine Bosch replacement for less than $40 on eBay, and was outside working for less than an hour. Removing the airbox is key, imho. I used a 6" extension and a tiny ratchet and had no problems (I do have small hands though, and space is very tight).

I just located my cps on the 2002 s600 , thanks for the assistance, my new problem is getting to it. I removed the air filter housing but there is virtually no room , is there away to remove it without having to remove the intake? I sure hope so because I hate to have to take it to the shop I was quoted 6 hrs of labor at 110 pr hr plus 150 for the part they want install customer parts that's like $810 plus tax

Could you please tell me the exact position of the CPS? I have an E55 AMG 1999. Have part and tools in hand but can find it. I have gotten conflicting reports as to where it is. Some say access under frt bumper, others say between fire wall and engine it frt of drivers side???
It it easier to access from under car. Appreciate your help!!!

Just changed mine an hour ago. ALL the tips etc. you guys have here saved me a boatload of time. Took longer for the car to cool down than it took to change it. Few weeks ago car would not fire up IMMEDIATELY so I knew something was coming. Easy search here , you guys got all this **** on LOCK! Makes me happy saving dough and the zen of twisting a wrench getting things done for yourself is
priceless.

here is a new one to pick your brains with,

I have changed Lp5 (crank) sensor twice as well as a brand new fuel pump.

but when the car gets to 90 degrees (normal operating temp) it looses power cuts the fuel and sputters to a holt.

once the engine shuts down it wont start up again until it cools down .

I'm thinking of four possible options:

1. Coil packs acting up
2. Wrong fuel pump (overheating under fast driving)
3. Engine sensor that needs replacing (but which one?)
4. Throttle body acting up

I have been battling with this for a while and its getting frustrating as well as dangerous, as it happens anywhere (i.e freeway, residential roads, intersections etc.) and as well all know once the engine shuts off so does the steering & brakes.

if anyone has some knowledge or has dealt with a similar problem please can you chime in thanks.

My two cents, if there is any question in your mind as to it being the wrong fuel pump you should address that imediatly. Custom tune, fuel might be something to take a look too if possible. I had a car that had the timing advanced and when I put in an inferior or low octane fuel the car would act the way you describe. It was a Mustang. So like I sad my two cents.

Hey Rios,

the part numbers on the fuel pumps were identical as well as the pump fitment and plugs were all exactly the same.

as for the the fuel the car only runs on pump gas 95 octane I'm taking it in tomorrow to a mechanic that only deals with A.M.G's and apparently has an up to date star system, so I'm hoping he will be able to tell me whats happening.

I will post up what the problem is and how to fix it in case this ever happens to any other owners.

holding thumbs that its an easy fix, but i somehow get the feeling that its not gonna be.

okay so picking up my vehicle this afternoon from the mechanic.

he has informed me that the fuel pump relay as well as the fuse need to be changed once a new fuel pump is installed.

so both have been changed and is apparently working well and pulling like a freight train.

I will test the vehicle once I have collected it and will revert back to you all.

have a wicked weekend guys!!

Okay so received the vehicle back from the mechanic and I still had the same issue with the vehicle dying once it had reached operating temperature.

the mechanic plugged the vehicle back into the star diagnostic system and found that the water temperature switch for the s/c was giving a reading of -257 degrees Celsius.

which means the s/c has its own water temperature sensor.

now I didn't take the sensor our or replace it myself so I'm not sure what tools to use to remove it but I did take some pictures of the offending sensor as well as the location of where it sits.

so if any other members ever get a similar issue they know where to start looking and not do costly replacements like I did.

Unhappy

Hi Fellas,
Few days ago my car stoped in the middle of the highway with no warnings. I tried to restart the car but it would not turn on. During that time I had 23 miles remaining for the gas to end. I later noticed a warning of "Low Battery" so I took my battery to Auto Zone to get it recharged and tried to turn the car on and still no nothing. Could this be the CPS, Fuel Pump, or something else?? Please Help

No, it refuses to start at all. Does not matter hot or cold.

1. Do you have an actual Check Engine Light on?

2. Does the car crank at a decent pace but just not "kick over"?

3. Are you parked on an incline by any chance? *

*only asking that because you say you're extremely low on gas.
