Bump: Doing mine again Glad I remembered this thread.
I just did mine last Friday.
Symptoms:
Hard start when hot (even if just hot sitting in sun) - Car would turn over for 5-6 seconds before firing
On some starts, Idle would be very low 400 - 500 RPM for a few seconds before coming up to normal.
Based on all the treads, I did the CPS- All problems resolved. I am glad I did not wait for it to die.

CPS dead, at least it is an easy fix!
Just wanted to thank shardul for this thread and the pictures. It really makes things so much easier!
Anyway, I jumped in my car to head home after a Dr.'s appt and my car just sat there trying to turn over but couldn't. It sounded like when your battery isn't strong enough to turn the enginer over. I stopped and opened the hood to look inside and make sure everything was tight (because this always works roadside!). Tried to restart it after about 10 minutes and it started on the second try. So I headed home and pulled the codes before I shut the engine off. Yep, the P0335 Crankshaft Positioning Error. I had happened to buy the CPS at the stealer last December and never got around to putting that and a couple of other goodies on my car. So I had the part in the garage. Swapped the CPS out, which took about 20 minutes and I was good to go. The location is a real pain in the *** and I can't imagine how hard it would be for someone that has big hands. I had 100,018 miles on the clock, so it would seem my CPS lasted longer than most. I'll most likely get a spare the next time I'm at the stealer.
I'd like to mention, I'm pretty down on Mercedes for "engineering excellence" and so many items that can simply leave you dead in the water for an error; namely the CPS, airmatic, brakes, and I'm sure there are others. Mercedes may be on the leading edge of introducing new capabilities to vehicles, but the flipside is they are terrible as far as when an issue happens and the reliability that doesn't come with it.

What a PITA to get to....I found the sensor, but cannot get the connector off (ughhh)....Getting the bolt off won't be a piece of cake either....

What does this look to be? I changed both batteries, starter relay and inspected everything near the starter. It went away for 2 months and never gave me any issues. It's now back and does it constantly. To the point where I leave the car running and lock the doors with the mechanical key. It took me over an hour the over night of flicking the key back and forth. No pending CEL, no drivability issues once started.
Starter "bumps", then nothing, then starts like all is normal.
I have a new CPS ready to go in tonight. Just wanted to see if anybody has had this same issue. The malfunction is low washer fluid.

I did not have any trouble getting the bolt out and used a piece of black electrical tape when installing the new CPS with the bolt (to keep the bolt from falling out)...
Put everything back together and car started just fine....
Thanks Shardul / Hulk / and others for the helpful thread!!

I replaced a cps at fortmyers fl dealer for $730 after driving for 3 hours the engine failed to start, the next morning after cooling all night it wouldn't start, unplugged the wire from the cps and plugged it in again and then the engine started, went to autozone and purchase a new cps for $50
And replaced it my self, I noticed the as I removed the cps Installed by the dealer it was wet with oil residue , proceeded installation of the new cps, after driving for about 200 miles it's failed again, can anyone help me why is the cps failing
Thank you

CPS connector issues
Had a CPS issue and swapped out the sensor; car ran fine. I noticed that if I touch the wiring harness the engine shuts off. Has anyone had connector/harness issues? Has anyone replaced the CPS wiring? If so, where did you purchase the connector? I appreciate any and all leads. . . . .

Replaced mine today. My hands never want to go down there again. Way too many stiff wiring looms in the way. I also couldn't get the plug off the sensor, so I removed the sensor still attached, then unplugged.

Just FYI: OEM Bosch at Amazon $31 not $85 from some cousins Same updated part number and without the A number in the housing for a fraction of the overinflated MB price.
Just wondering what would a dealership charge MSRP and what for labor? In the E320 it's a 10 minute job. Now on the AMG I have to find out the hard way how long it's gonna take since everything is way tighter in there.
