Alarm battery?

Alarm battery?
The stealership's trying to charge me $260 to change an alarm battery because my door lock/unlock stopped chirping (which just started the day I got it back from them.. Go figure). Does anyone know where this battery is? I'm sure I can replace it for much less than $260.. Just gotta figure out where it is.

The alarm system doesn't have it's own battery... It seems as if maybe the dealer had to do some reprogramming with your car and forgot to turn that option back on... Not sure about the e55, but with my previous vehicle this happened almost every visit to the dealer... They always plugged it back into the computer and turned it on though...

And Harjo.. I'm pretty sure there is a battery. Even my alarm doesn't make noise anymore. The fog lights flash, but there is no audible.

Have a look at the Star Diagnostics in the DIY section. The second procedure explains how to turn on the audible lock/unlock beep. There is no battery for it. Seems like the dealer purposely or inadvertantly reflashed you back to default which was for me, no audible beep. When I got my star diag system, I went in and enabled it. You can adjust the volume as well. Especially if you aren't having any error messages about "convenience features disabled" or other messages, then go to the dealer and have them re-enable your audible beep. Now, if it worked for a few hours or day after you got it back from the dealer, and then quit, it might be a different story.

Not certain what battery the dealer is talking about but two scenarios exist (1) if no audible when doors are locked/unlocked only this would be SDS programming, (2) + no audible to alarm may be siren unit (#80 in diagram) https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...t-working.html if you want instruction sheet to replace PM email address.

Thanks konigstiger. That is exactly what I was looking for. I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome. The alarm siren definitely doesn't work.. Just so coincidental that it happened AT the dealership.
