Yes, been posted but before but here is live proof on a UPS scale.. Battery is between 59-61lbs.. !!
For example, a new C6 vette battery is 34lbs and most guys replace those with a 21lb race battery..

There's also Optima but they don't seem to last very long.

They don't list Mercedes as an application, so you have to find one that fits. They don't list Porsche either but there is one that fit my 993 perfectly.
Both brands weigh a lot less.

I bought one at Wally World for $70 that dropped right in place of the stock one. They also carry the smaller battery that mounts in the engine compartment for about $50 I think.
From what I've read and been told by a battery company rep, there are 3 companies that manufacture pretty much every automotive lead acid battery sold. Retailers simply slap their colors and labels on them, so chances are that $250 battery from XXX is the exact same battery you can get at Auto Zone for $60.
Edit: I believe the large battery is a group 78 and the small battery is a group 18. Someone else can chime in if I'm wrong.

Of course there are, like Optima and others. I was referring to conventional lead-acid batteries that most people pay way too much money for, which is what I thought AWOL was asking about. Honestly though, I can't think of too many good reasons to install a lightweight battery in a 4,100 pound car with a nice fat 60 lb battery over the right rear wheel where it's actually doing a lot of good for traction, unless you're one of the handful of owners shooting for the record.

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
Interstate makes decent and decently priced batteries.
Optima used to be a great battery. I believe they are now crap. I've been through 4 of them in less than a year on a dual battery application.
I hear Odyssey batteries (as mentioned a few posts up) are what Optimas used to be when they first came out and were excellent batteries.
And of course the batteries are heavy. Duh! After all, they are heavy duty!

All,
Could sombody link me to a good battery that will fit our E55 and is powerful/last a long time? I live in Phoenix and the heat often kills batteries quite quickly so I'm looking for a very good one. Lighter would be nice to but mainly something very strong/durable.
Thanks!
Alex

autozone batteries are actually pretty good, in my experience better than diehard and interstate. D49-L is our battery, both BMWs and Mercedes have same size battery.
But with that being said autozones, have pretty good warranties 2 year free replacement, and they even give you credit after that toward another one. cost like 89.99 if I remember right. Ive gotten enough of them. I think it is the biggest and most expensive battery they carry. And thats not even the GOLD duralast which has better warranty and more amps. But even the regular ones have more cranking amps than oem. If they ever die, jumpstart your car, and drive it to an autozone they will swap it free if your under warranty. My local tec reccommended them to me once years ago for my 328i. have dropped one in in just about every car I have had.

Yeah, Mercedes batteries are extremely heavy..... but if you think that is heavy, you should check out the CLS63 battery: I think Juicee weighted his and came out to 70 lbs
