G55 & SLK55
Airbox possibilities
Hello,
Basically I have a 2006 SLK55 AMG, I've recently got the Kleemann K2 kit which gets the e55 airbox, sparkplugs, ecu flash, Roots type Kompressor on 0.45 bar of boost equivalent to 6.5psi, additional radiator, y-pipe and clamps etc.
I had green filters on my oem airbox, should I re use them on the E55 airbox or the oem's ?
I was wondering if there is a larger airbox for the E55, since my car can use the E55 airbox now with the compressor.
Any thing with CF that can accommodate for more airflow.

very expensive renntech or a little less expensive vrp are the only slightly larger carbon airboxes available and both have been shown to give a mild hp increase. i'm not a fan of the green filters as they've had some failures and would go with k&n's.

look at the needswings dual cai. it flows almost 200 cfm more than the 55 airbox. its teflon coated and you may be able to get in fornt of your rad. im not sure. rob would know

Was checking the needswings website but didn't see anything offhand for the dual CAI - would you happen to have more info on that?

I had a Renntech CF airbox a couple of years ago but sold it immediately because I didn't think I would get any benefits ( aside from looks ) from it as it appeared to be pretty much the same thing as a stock airbox.
Getting a needswings setup would be very interesting - has anyone managed to get this installed for the 55k? I think the SLK32 can run with a 74mm TB - might be compatible.
I was looking too at the carbino website - anyone got some pics of that one for the 55k?

the slk32 setup is what you want. ask rob about any mods needed to fit into the slk55.
theres a fellow that put a s/c sl55 engine in a chrysler crossfire and rob said he could make it fit. the n/a slks use the dual cai also. i would think the only issue would be is there enough room in front of the rad.
heres the flow # from rob
so to get the important numbers together...
stock srt6 intake = 446cfm
sl55 intake = 514cfm
sl55 with devil horns = 531cfm
single CAI with teflon = 602cfm
dual CAI with teflon and big filters = 748cfm
for comparison the srt-6 intake is the same as the slk32 intake. as you can see the dual cai that rob makes flows like a beast!!

Sounds really promising - I'll give Rob a call Monday, hopefully we can work something out for my car. Price seems much more reasonable compared to some of the CF stuff! For me there will be no chance whatsoever to pass the rad, it will just have to sit in the engine bay, but I might be able to open up my hood for air inlets

rob is a stand up no bs fella. if it wont help he wont sell it. he built me the first c3 pulley saver kit and i have been a happy customer for a long time. theres a # of his products on my car. never an issue
