2004 E55 Nav questions
Hi all, I'm a new 2004 E55 owner, stock E55, white. I previously had a 1999 Black/Black E55 which I bought new, and gave to my son this year for a graduation present. Other car currently in stable is a full RUF conversion of a 1997 993 Cab which I had done 13 years ago by RUF.
I've never owned a car with a Nav system, much less a MB. I am interested in putting a Nav system in my E55. I contacted my dealer in Melbourne, FL and they cannot order one as it is apparently no longer an item that is carried. I have some rather basic questions so please bear with me.
1. What MB Nav systems are available to me to install in a 2004 E55? Is it just the W211 model Nav system?
2. I have the command unit, does this mean that all I need is the DVD Nav system and wiring?
3. Do these Nav systems have audio map instructions?
4. How current are the DVDs?
5. Does anyone have a Nav system for sale ?(this is probably not the right thread for this question).
Thanks in advance,
Gregg

if you have the comand unit up front, then all you need is the following
- rear nav dvd drive
- gps signal splitter you may have that
- cage to mount rear nav drive
- nav dvd
you dont need any wiring, you can tap into the MOST cabel under the rear drive side door.

It should be noted that just about any aftermarket nav system (Stand Alone) is far superior to the OEM MB Nav. That is a fact. If you want nav for NAV, that would be my suggestion. If you want OEM nav, and don't really care if it is not the greatest, then the NAV can be retrofitted. Cost will likely be about 4X -5X what you could get a great garmin (with traffic updates) for.
I HAD to have oem NAV, and it was not so much for how great it works, I just needed it. It works for my purpose, but again, it is less than great. Many threads here about nav. mbenznl.nl (Steve) is a pro at this, and can provide all parts. Again, it is expensive, and you need to understand what the end result will be.
PS- Welcome to the forum!! Enjoy the new ride!!

Thanks for the help and the welcome. The W211 E55 is a much more of a beast than the W210 E55 I'm used to and much more complicated as well. I'll be needing more help once I start sliding down the slippery slope of performance mods.
Best,
Gregg

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Gregg, first off, welcome. For much less than adding a factory nav, which by the way it about one notch above a TRS-80, check out this option which a few owners have installed.
