M5 Smack talk
Not even close to the E55 in terms of acceleration. The only way I see an E60 M5 being faster is if the race started @140mph and where gearing plays a MAJOR role. As people have said, the torque kills those cars and you have to rev the **** out of them.
0-120, the M5 is left behind and playing catchup. And honestly, how many races actually go much beyond that? Especially in the U.S.
By the time the M5 'catches up', we're talking 140+ (NOT very common). And we're talking stock to stock, I won't even begin to talk about mod for mod.

I can keep going... It's funny how you behave.
13 seconds for a M5/M6 just means bad launch/ no use of launch control... You know, Road and Track, a couple of years ago, tested an M6 and M5 and both did 1/4 mile at around 12.1 seconds/118 mph each.
Had my E55 for about a year now just starting to do some mods and this post prompted me as I came from a e60 M5 and I can certainly say I find the AMG way quicker.
The M5 had no torque low down great handling but not that quick off the line even with launch control.
The videos posted by Gustav clearly are and has been proven time and time again.
Where are you located? I'm sure we will have some takers for you to run. Funny that there are so many people that have had both cars and almost every one says the E55 was faster in straight line. Twisties isn't even under debate
I was going to say the same thing
Zing!!! That guy is such a tool. Funny that I'm banned from that bored because of something I posted here. It's ok, I put out open calls for any M5 to run in the 1/4 and they didn't. I have nothing against BMW's or any other car make for that matter but some of those guys really **** me off. The blatant disrespect and ignorance by several (not all) there is why I wanted to race some of them. Of course none stepped up. Just to be clear, I have MANY cool friends with BMW's, it is the select few loudmouths that **** me off. I have nothing against BMWs, M5's, or anything like that.

We ran my stock 2006 E55 and a stock 2006 E60 M5 at Capital Raceway here in Maryland back in 2006. We tried to give each car the best chance to run it's best number, not just a single race.
The M5 was about .4 slower through the 1/4 mile with a 3mph higher trap speed.
I think my E55 ran 12.16@115 with a 1.85 short and the M5 ran 12.5@118 with a 2.0 short. Both cars were as delivered from the factory, right down to the tires, with at least the first service performed. LC was used in the M5.
All the timeslips, including a video, are on this board if you search.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

was faster. We ran from 0-100mph three times and the results were the same each time.
but it'll eventually help a newb M or AMG owner out.

Im willing to bet the 2001 m3 GTR (street version) would be faster than both the SLR and SLS however then you could bring up the old CLK DTM. i couldn't find nurburing times for either of them though.

If you never own a Mercedes, get one before talk !
I just do not buy the e46 m3 CSL: 7:50
How is a 340+ hp car doing so much better then cars with 500 to 580 or something along those lines HP(CLK BLK/DTM), and do not tell me they can not go fast in the twisty's!
Then there is the fact that this track has a long straight in it...so even if it did do better in the corners, how is it also holding the straight?!?
Just going through the list makes u wonder how some cars are getting such massive time differences...i mean the GTR is also a ?!?!?! for me... it just dicked on all the super cars in the world...makes no sense!

Ignore my post then. I thought you just overlooked it. I love BMW's, so don't get me wrong here. I was looking into an e36 m3 and e46 m3 before i bought my benz.

I only own 745Li and spend already $2k to fix it..... and more light came out last week....... talking about reliability..... i love the 745Li, big and comfy but just spending time to fixing it ..... anyways, Mercedes and BMW are all excellent car depends your budget and need.
Maybe God's hand was on it at the 'Ring when it ran those times

The CSL was really a magnificent car. the biggest difference is that the clk black weighs 3800-4000lbs and the csl is 2900-3000 thats a big difference.

now don't get me wrong, i just sold my 335i and im looking for a clean cls55 but i just like to be an unbiased car enthusiast and i hate when people are brand ******. If i was on the BMW forum and saw those clowns saying an e39 m5 is as fast as an e55 I would defend the MERC.

I'd like to hear from someone like you, with vast amounts of hands on knowledge, how these cars compare at the limit around a road course.
BTW, no bias here
