Check your Pulleys!!

So Iam just doing some routine maintaniance on the 55k New S/C belt and inspecting everything and come across this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMh9cYPDSyo

I haven't been experiencing any troubles. Just a very quiet squeak every once and a while which I belive I have found the issue. So check your Pulleys!!!

Now that bearing was replaced by the previous owner with a cheap China one. I ordered 2 of the high quality ones yesterday (keep a spare). And Iam assuming its the bearing failure causing that to wobble. correct me If iam wrong guys..

yea i notice the squeak more during really cold weather. i verified it by removing the sc belt and the noise was gone. so i checked each pulley and found exactly what you did.

Wow talk about close call! Good thing you found that. Did you notice it wobble when you ran the car?

Always a good idea to have a look at the pulley and bearing. Check the counter pulley while your at it. Hopefully your bearing won't look like this.

My brother's double pulley went bad on his CLS55. When it went bad it snapped the whole pulley clean off. Not to mention thats a $500 part. My tensioner pulley for the supercharger just went bad the other day.

^ I always tell people to keep an eye on the bearing if they have an SC clutch chirp. I lived with the chirp for about 8 months and then this. Maybe there is no relationship, but I always wonder. It seems like the chirp would put more stress on the bearing.

This thread has gotten my paranoid about my car again. If I hear a chirp upon start up, is it my SC Idler pulley?

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about a chirp I was hearing on my 07 E550...Dealer kept it over night and tried to replicate, they diagonsed it as a worn cooling fan and it was replaced under warranty...I thought it was a belt or pulley...still hear the chirp though...I'm thinking about going to another dealer to see what theyu say....

Johncy I would think with all the work done recently on the 55 you wouldn't be experiencing any issues!!

ASP makes a complete CNC replacement unit with a proper high speed bearing. $125. They also make a similar idler pulley, also $125. This solves all pulley problems (except for the SC).

The Asp replacements look pretty good. Just received both mine last week. Not bad pricing and quality product!
