Fidelity Warranty (Thumbs up or down)

I'm contemplating cancelling my 2 years additional CPO warranty for a Fidelity Platinum warranty (additional 6yr/72kmiles from date of warranty purchase).

I've read some horror stories on the internet (pre 2010) about. What do you guys recommend?

The local MB dealer service manager says that they are the best of the lot so far as covering and not contesting issues...

i had Fidelity and they were good - did the same one you have and they never even questioned a $1500 A/C claim - just approved the work!

E63,,,not any more,,,BMW X5 50i
I am on the fence as to buy an optional warranty or egt into a different car. With only 35,000 on my '07,,,,the choice should be simple,,but I looked into the coverage and found this under exclusions......
In addition to offering the same features of Powertrain, Silver, Gold, and Gold Plus, Platinum expands to cover almost all assemblies of your vehicle, giving you the "Ultimate Peace of Mind" protection.

Platinum Exclusions

UNDER PLATINUM COVERAGE, ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS:

Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard transmission clutch components, air bags, solar powered devices, hinges, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, trim, moldings, door handles, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, batteries, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, shock absorbers, audio, security or other systems not factory installed, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing, constant velocity joint boots, safety restraint systems, cellular phones, electronic transmitting devices (except for those specifically listed under silver, gold, or gold plus coverage), radar detectors, appliances, near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components, vinyl and convertible tops.

there are more exclusions under different headings,,,, I don't know now what to do...

Anyone care to share the cost of their coverage? I was about to buy a Chrystler Warranty until they quit offering them. The Benz warranty was going to be 5k or so which isn't worth it to me. I have an 06 with 35k miles. I only drive about 1k miles a year, so I'll never get this car to high mileage while I own it. Given I could own it for 5 more years and only have 40k, I don't see dropping 5k up front being worthwhile insurance. For you daily drivers, I see the value though.

As for the exceptions above, most seem to make sense, but does "shock absorbers" exclude our airmatic? That the one that concerns me with all the failure stories and repair cost.

+1

The SA at my dealer loves when I come in. Its the easiest job he gets. I paid ~$3500 for a 4 year additional 100K miles "Platinum" warranty. They cover everything that can go wrong with the car.

Most warranties have similar exclusions.

I haven't asked about coverage for my E55 as I still have a warranty until October of this year, but I did ask for a quote from my credit union for my '04 RX330. I received a quote of a $1049 for 5 years/50k coverage, $50 deductible. The CSR said the carrier was something like Unity? However, I went to another branch and they gave me a brochure from National Auto Care. Upon reading the brochure, there is an optional supercharger/turbo coverage and a seals and gaskets cover.

That was the quote my local MB dealer provided to me and they matched it.

If you are looking for a warranty, I suggest contacting your local MB dealer and ask them what 3rd party warranty company insurance policy do they sell and go with that one.

I went to my credit union to see about an extended warranty and they checked through Natl Auto Care and they do not have coverage for the E55. I guess I'll just ask my SA to see if they have add'l coverage when my Fidelity coverage ends in October.

Fidelity (Platinum level $100.00 deductible) is what I have on the SL600 and they've been great.

Do a search here. Been discussed numerous times.

How about some other mileage options, like under 50K or under 60K... What about the vendors selling them ?

Found some info on the company, not sure what to think about all that ?

http://www.ripoffreport.com/directory/Fidelity-Warranty-Services.aspx

On a side note, our Mercedes dealer used to sell it but when the new finance manager came over, they quit selling them.

This is understandable. However, if I bought a used Honda, Toyota, Acura or even Lexus, I would never consider a third party warranty. THose cars are almost bullet proof and can go multiple hundreds of thousands of miles if taken care of.

Some folks on this forum and my service advisor had nothing bad to say about FWS with Mercedes-Benz. There are parts that are not covered (e.g. radiator hose). If that busts before being replaced, FWS will not cover it. I have seen a post or two on this forum of FWS paying out repairs for Airmatic failures, which appears to be a common problem with the 211 AMG's.

At the end of the day, I paid $4275 for a 2 year additional CPO warranty thru Merceded-Benz which takes me out to 5/2014 or 100,000 miles. I can get the FWS for about $4000 which would take me out to 5/2017 or 107,000 miles.

I have until 5/8/2011 to make a decision to keep my 2 year additional CPO or cancel and purchase a FWS platinum plan that gives me three more years.

fwiw, I spoke with a finance person on Wednesday and they said the products have changed. The MB ELW so far remains the same (that's the one where if you're the original owner then you can simply extend the factory warranty for another 3 years or 100k.) But he said the CPO is now being extended to 130,000 miles.

Did you hear any mention of that? I'm considering keeping my car (I'm the original owner) and getting the ELW when the time comes. They may enhance the ELW, too, in another year of so.

I didn't hear about the mileage extension to 130k. Either way, I'm more concerned about having additional time rather than mileage. I may not reach 100k miles by 2017 and I'm definitely sure I won't get near 100k by 2014. This is why I'm considering canceling the Merceded-Benz 2 year additional CPO and getting the FIdelity Platinum plan.

What are your thoughts?
