First Best Mod for the 55K

I used to think hands down the first best mod for the 55k was a pulley and tune. I am starting to rethink that. Maybe Long Tubes and a tune is the way to start. What do you think?

Headers bro. More $$ than pulley but LOTS of hp and no heat issues with that mod. Keep in mind with long tubers, you are gonna have to go tune with cats being munched and O2s getting deleted.

Once your are into a pulley, you gotta fight the heat monster.

Long tubes, remove the cats and tune is by far the best mods. I noticed difference with my 180 ASP pulley, but the headers completely transformed the car.
FWIW there may be a 3" stainless exhaust (deletes all four cats) hitting the market soon.

Yeah, my mod experience is a bit of a story about how not to do it. I am trying to help out a guy on the SL55 forum and I know all the knowledgeable mod nuts live here.

It seems like a couple years ago the common answer would have been a pulley and a tune.

With LT's and full 3" exhaust no cats, with no other changes my car picked up 50whp.

I'm considering purchasing these headers for my next car (CLS55) and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with them:

Thanks for any input.

These are PLM headers. You can get them for less than what is asked. Some guys on here got them and love them, while others say they are knockoffs of renntechs shortys.

Those are PLM headers. I would go with Kleeman over those, cheaper and a mid length header with better quality to boot.

I did headers as a first mod and it was great! 42whp without a tune.

I would personally say cooling should be the first. The car already has a problem with heat in stock form. What good is adding power/heat when the car can't cool itself properly stock?

Actually, I stand corrected. My first mod was new PLM HE and CM30, then headers. I would also recommend that! But as Cooling upgrades are more preventative, headers are a great option for a first power mod.

Headers also have a "cooling" effect to them as well....
