I don't know about the E55, but the E63 with airmatic handles better than the E350 and has a better steering ratio, too.
Apparently, the W211 E Klasse chassis geometry was designed for a pneumatic suspension system and the steel suspension on the E350 is a compromise between product placement and cost.
The E350 handles like crap compared to many sedans in its class. And the steering is super numb and the body roll is obscene. It also doesn't handle rough roads well at all, although hopefully the KWs will be better in that respect.
A W211 E Klasse is just a "business saloon" for the Autobahn and really nothing else, AMG or not.
Nonetheless, this is will be interesting to watch develop. But I think one will have to take into consideration sway bars and other suspension component changes and not just a straight coil over swap since the car was designed with different suspension characteristics in mind. But it's a start.

People need to understand that regardless of what we put in our cars,a BIG TURBOCHARGER or COILOVERS or BOTH,our cars will never handle like a P-Car or a 360 CS
The OP's purpose of going with CO's is not to make his car a track car but he is sick of
1)- The cushy ride
2)- The recurring problems with airmatics
3)- The cost and labor invloved in repairing airmatics
4)- The weight of Crapmatic
So he finally decided enough is enough and took the project on to IMPROVE the driveability (handling) and reliability of his car or shall i say,all mercedes models with crapmatic suspension..
Salute to Benzoboi for taking initiative on this awesome project...
Hope this helps...

I'll have some more tomorrow my friend!
A Nissan GT-R weighs almost 3900lbs and is one of the best handling cars EVAR! That doesn't mean the E will be able to handle a well as a purposely build AWD sports car, but it's handling should improve dramatically. It may also be helpful to perhaps upgrade the sway bars.

I know it'll handle A LOT better than the crapmatic...that's for sure! I'm on stockies at the moment. I know what wheels I'm gettin next, I just wanted to get this project done first...

Exactly what I was going for. Thanks! All I want is the car to handle a little better.

Exactly what I'm going for. I'm not expecting to turn better and faster than P cars, I just want the car to handle better
Completely agree with you. The discussion of coils on the W211 have been going on for quite a while. That was it...a discussion. I heard a couple people here and there were attempting but never heard any news. I got tired of waiting and thought I'd try it out myself. Eventually I will start to upgrade other suspension components but like you said, coils is a start.
Thanks! I'm excited to see out the outcome also!

Is your car already done and on the road?
Definitely look forward to a build thread (if you plan on one) and your initial impressions of your setup! We should talk later to share/compare ideas to help make our cars handle better! I would highly appreciate your thoughts and impressions on your set-up!
I remember you being one of the guys workin on doing coils for the W211. Was and still lookin forward to what you think!

not on road.. you might be faster than me.. since it is the shop's project / test maul car. it gets worked on last. I was working with other suspension company (Ohlins, AST) , to make us a prototype. it just cost way too much. and I dont think anyone will will to spend that much.. I am talking about 4-6k just for the coilover.. so I end up choosing PSS9. as KW are made by Koni. I wanted a company that build from ground up.
Also been busy with other project.

We are still waiting for some hardware that we need to install in the rear to make it all work out. Apparently it was a part that wasn't kept in stock. Should have been here last friday but will be here tomorrow. I believe that is the only thing the guys are waiting for. The fronts are done and ready to rock. Once the part arrives, everything should be installed and we should have the car on the ground either by tomorrow night or first thing the day after. Fine tune the height and then off to get an alignment done. I promise to update as soon as I get/know anything. You know I wouldn't hold out on you guys.
See above
Not yet but I will get you all the info soon!

A W211 may never get through the twisty bits like a proper sports car, but this is certainly an interesting thread.
Damping and wheel rate tuning is a worthwhile pastime on most any chassis.
Nice work, Sun. :y

Can't wait for you to get it back and your driving impressions, how much longer I think I am more excited for you to get your car back than for me to receive my FF longtube headers, loll.
