Run in with a new Camaro SS
So how fast are these things? Because one kept right up my **** today, if he wanted it seem like he could over take me! As I came up to a stop to take a left he went by with a lol... I don't street race, or agree with street racing, this was merely a lil sprint off the line in a open non occupied industrial area in Mexico.
Either...
My car is slow as hell, I guess the anchor 20s don't help, pump is failing?
or
Camaro SS is just a beast, maybe he had some bolt ons? Definitely had a loud exhaust.
or
He was supercharged?
If that was the case http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQgXh5_fxHI LOL I'd be eating dust

Ive ran 3-4 SS and god knows how many SRT chargers/300 and Ive only had one 300 SRT keep up with my basically stock AMG(muffler delete is the only "power mod" I have for now lol). I really don't bother with them anymore unless they're modified . stock for stock I pulled about 1 1/2-2 cars on the SS so with a good amount of mods im sure they would be able to close that gap.
FYI the 300 SRT had exhaust/headers/CAI/and a mild cam...he pulled away initially but I slowly reeled him in on the top end. we were neck and neck with me edging away at about 125mph.

I was asking my friend the other day if he's seen any stock 5th-gen Camaros at the track. Seems like they added 100+hp to the car over the 4th-gen Camaro/Firebird, but they're not appreciably quicker in the magazine tests.
I saw a test recently of the Mustang 5L and Camaro SS convertibles. The Camaro ran a 13.2@109 and the Mustang ran 12.9@111. The Camaro SS convertible was over 4000lbs I think the Mustang was 400lbs lighter.

A buddy of mine has a gen 5 Camaro, and I drove it before and after mods. Bone stock I wasn't impressed at all. The only mods done were headers, cold air, and esu tune and I have to tell you the car should come the factory with these slight mods. It's a night and day difference and it's actually fun to drive. We havn't done a side by side pull but I have to say I'm bone stock and the way he's modded it would be pretty close.
Now the fun begins, this summer he is adding a super charger and I'm looking to start to mod the E55.

I've had several 4th gen Camaros and an 05 LS GTO. One of them I called "wednesday" an 02because it was just built right. Evertything you usually hated about these cars, this one didnt have like: rattley doors, too much play in the power seat tracks, etc.
I did 4:10 gears, Kooks headers, SLP intake, AFR heads, SLP loudmouth, Minitubbed rear to take 305s, Diablo tuner, and a few Hotchkis toys.
Never dyno'd, never took it to Firebird or Speedworld... But I'm pretty sure that car would smizoke my stock E55 in a big way. And it got 25 MPG on the freeway.
These cars are dirt cheap, and cheap to tune.
But, there's this stigma that goes with them.

I had an 01 TA WS6 6spd that was built right, too. Stock with drag radials, it ran 12.76@110.05.
Car only had 600 miles on it.
I'm not impressed with the 5th-gens.

While Camaro mag numbers are not as good as the W211's- they are close enough for a good street race where jumps, conditions, wheel spin, etc clearly help out in a dig run.
The tenths of seconds it yields in a controlled measured environment (magazine style) can easily be made up in a dig. Longer sustained races to a quarter or a 60-130 race would provide different results IMHO.

Chevrolet is upping the ante next year with the Camaro ZL1. With a 550+hp supercharged LSx motor, it's going to put a hurting on our AMGs.
