Mobil MOTORSPORT FORMULA

Hi,

Have 10 litres of 0w40 mobil and 10 litres of 10w60 MOTORSPORT FORMULA mobil, sitting in the garage ready for another oil change this weekend.

I wanted to use the 10w60 to do a complete oil change and hopefully reduce some of the oil burning every month from me driving it hard. A few on the forum metion using it? Most BMW M series seem to use it?

If it I mix both together will it effectively be 5w50?

thanks

is it amg approved? nope.

I wouldn't use a 60wt oil, nor a 50wt.

Stick with the 0w-40

Thanks, but I just wanted to know if mixing was ok ... I will use the 10 60, average winter temps are 4c. It wil maintain its properties better suited to my driving style.

I drive hard for long periods and get the engine hot on fire.......so hot that the fuel returning to the tank is steaming vapours from the fuel cap after a good 20 min beating.

thats great, but what makes you think you need a 60wt.

mixing is fine, but I still think you are going far too thick here.

Thankyou Oliver, I will combine for 5w 50 although your probably right that 10w60 might be too thick,,,,, although am sure others are using it here?

What I am trying to do, is match up the hard beating over 100k on the engine with an oil that is suitable against any increases in any wear tolerances.

I was stupidly using 5w30 for a while ......(a 25 litre barrel cost less than 8 litres of mobil) and was using 1 litre every 1k, switched to 0w40 and its less than half a litre every 1k which is exceptable.

But there are some on here that use no oil. When I beat the crap out of the car, the engine temps increase and to the point when the oil thins out = oil consumption................................ which I know is alot harder to do with the 10w60.

cheers

you sure your not leaking anywhere bro?

when i first got my car it was using abt 1 ltr every 5000 miles, but then the oil cooler split, had that replaced and the breather leak re-sealed and it hasnt asked for no oil since its service abt 7K back.

Update might help people with oil comsumption issues.

I visted a local shop and purchased Mobil SuperSyn 5W-50 Rally Formula instead and did the oil change a fews days ago. Filled it to 8.5 litres and have beat on the car hard doing over three tanks of fuel/approx 300miles ....... 100mph+.

result still 8.5 litres showing.

next changing plugs later this week for Bosch FR-6-MPP-332

thanks, I was hopping that these plugs would be the best option for the price.

They seem to get a good write up when compared to the original MB dealer plugs.

2006 E55 AMG --old cars -- E39 M5, 2.7tt Audi S4, E36 M3 **Ducati 996, 748
i used 15-50 mobil-1
Its been a few months and no problems at all. I just let the car warm up a bit before i drive it hard -- good idea no matter what oil you use.

I found this thread useful, quoting improvement in running and mpg, but the might just be down to the old plugs needing replacement.

Had the car for two years and did not realise it already had the bosch plugs fitted which deffinately needed changing due to bad carbon build up.........I think they were fitted over 40k ago, the engine response is very noticable and much improved after taking it for a run this evening.

That much oil on the threads of the plugs would worry me. Since I am not an E55 guys, nit sure this is normal.

thanks,

I thought the same thing, but the area around the plugs is bone dry.
I think its oil left over oil from the leaking rocker gaskets that I replaced a while back.

+1 defo looks like oil from a previous leak, if it was coming from inside you would have had serious misfires!

I ended up replacing mine with standard dealer items which are NGK Iradium (resister based ones) BrabusK8 can get a good discount (mbclub) if you ever need service items. about 40% off.

I ended up replacing all the ignition wires too, got them all from Bosch for £140, dealer wanted £460! and they are exactly the same thing!
