MY E55 JUST STOPPED WHILE DRIVING
I had been gunning it for an hour, and then out of the blue the gas pedal died and the power steering died everything shut down, I got lucky enough to pull over. When I try to start it , it does the starting sound but does not fire up.
Any ideas what this could be?
I have renntech pulley and ecu upgrade with renntech water pump... that probably did not help...
Please help me thank you

if it is the cps, a hundred bucks or so....easy diy, there is one bolt holding it on, just gotta get back there to get it. I believe shardul wrote a diy for it.
na,no damage most likely...crank position sensor seems to just be one of those things that goes out on these cars..

So therefore it has nothing to do with the fact that I was gunning it for an hour on the highway.
When will it happen again? im sort of curious of the cause, for example the water pump goes bad when it soaks because of heat... what do you believe will cause this?
It was kind of dangerous I mean imagine if it was on the highway at 120 or something....
so installing long tubes will not affect this? happening, I was sort of scared about doing extra mods, I was actually looking into your companies headers.

It is a simple part that just goes bad. My Audi is known to have the same problem (called the speed sensor in that car though). The crank position sensor counts "teeth" on a ring on the crank of the engine and tells the engine to fire a spark. When it stops working the engine doesn't have any spark so it won't run.
There isn't any damaging effect of this failing, your engine simply just won't run. I don't know about in these cars but usually it will start to let you know it is going bad and the car will stall say at a light/stop sign and you will be able to crank it back up right away then it will finally just fail all together.
