A little help from the experts..
HI all,
After driving a w211 ('07 E63) yesterday there is no other car on my radar for my next purchase... which i will make in the next 30 days. Much respect to everyone who owns one, it was a real life awakening. However the black on black with 30k that i drove had 3 owners already and some service records im not sure about. I am just weighing costs of extending wrrnty versus choosing another individual. It is a CPO but the 3 owners in 30k miles has me hesitating. So i put it to you all here and hope to get some insight into what is expected and if there are any concerns i should have. Thanks in advance and i hope to be on here soon with pics of my new addition.
There is a buy and sell (in same state) within 29 days of one another with well over 2k miles put on the car in that period.
at 6k, headliners removed and reinstalled, chassis lubricated, brake master cylinder cap replaced
19k engine mount replaced, transmission fluid and oil leaks checked, transmission serviced, chassis lubricated
23k headlight assembly replaced
25k cylinder head gasket replaced, A/C compressor replaced
The int/ext is in immaculate. Not a scratch or chip pr scrape i could find.
Looking forward to hearing what you all have to say.
Thanks all, P

Seems like a lot of weird service for a car with such low miles..... the head gasket seems like a huge red flag to me also. Is this information stuff you got from a CARFAX or from the VMI? Sometimes the VMI will have a little extra detail that might explain "why" some of those things were done.
Either way, an '07 E63 isn't that hard to find on the open market.... are you being seduced by a low price? If it were me, I'd be looking for other cars with fewer owners and fewer big-dollar repairs..... this one seems to have too many inconsistencies and warning signs already.

Thanks, I have both the carfax and the mercedes reports. They dont tell much detail. Multiple service visits say owner comlained of "noise". The sales guy said it was just a whiny owner...But the reality would be 3! whiny owners. Price is market, and it is CPO for another year. I would also have to ship it across country so its got a lot of strikes against it.

Since I own a 07 E63, the engine mounts and transmission service deosn't bother me, as much as the cylinder head gasket. One never wants to crack open and engine, for any reason. Would I buy this car? with a little more information, possibly. Not all thing are a red flag. I would be cautious thou, but with a warranty, I wouldn't sweat it to much, because it's covered. But you don't want to inherit a problems either. Is this car being sold at a MB dealership? I would exercise due diligence and have the salesman provide any and all information that you request, in order to make a deal. Definitely, if you buy this car, get an extended warranty, you could never be to careful. AMG have great engines and transmissions, it always the other stuff like electronics hate are the headaches.

Does the car have Pano? That would explain the headliner removal as well as the lubrication. They get squeaky and need a little lube for some people (mine makes little noises from the heat).
I agree that having had the engine cracked open is a bit scary. Could be that Hans had a few too many Heffe Weisens for lunch that day.

This one is at a MB dealer. It does have the pano roof.
With only 12 months of CPO left i would definitely extend the warranty. which brings me to the idea that i could buy from a private seller, hopefully 1 owner and clean record and just do aftermarket warranty. Like gregmb said the market is not terribly thin right now on the model. (auotrader turns up 117 2007/8) Also there's no good deal on financing a 2007 CPO right now. i think they offered me 4.5 or 5.4 % but i just shuffled into wells fargo and they gave me 3.49%
all in all i think ill pass on this one and keep looking. but the love at first sight factor is compelling.

"Chassis Lubricated." And done twice
What does that mean? There are no zerks on the chassis a 2007 E63.
Does any modern car need "chassis lubrication?" How do you grease them when they have no fittings?
Maybe it just means the pano was lubed(?)

2008 e63 AMG
I'm no expert, but mine is CPO (2008 e63) and I've already had it in twice in a week and a half for a front light and a jammed rear sun shade. It didn't have any major engine work on it on the service reports, but it did have a fair amount of stuff done.
I think you'll probably have problems with it, but you can get them fixed for free. Still worth it in my opinion. I love the car. And I don't mind problems as long as MB fixes them for free.
