Local dealer decided to replace the lifters in my 07 E63 a year or so ago when I went in for regular maintenance.
Does replacement still mean potential failures in the future?

Now from my reading on this case, all of the 63's appear to be on that list that have the M156 engine. Looks like I should wait for the 2012 63 CLS? Are the 2012 63 lines engines made by AMG as well?

MB has been battered for some years on QC/reliability issues, this seems to be another black eye for them. Subscribed, would like to hear how this works out.

Edit: I think I will wait on buying any of the 63's until I get more informed on this issue. This is way too much money/risk involved, and the reluctance by MB to fix I see on the case is quite alarming. BTW- Look through the comments on BB, all I will mention.

Well the reason is that the lifters are Stainless steel and the cam lobs are cast Iron i think so the harder metal being the SS will eventually wear down the lobs on the cams again . I am pretty sure some aftermarket cams will come out to take car of this

I read and read. And the more I read the more I feel queezy about my 07 e63 with 65k miles. I may have paranoid veteran ears, but I know there's something up with my lifters and slight ticking. Should I be worried? The car doesn't seem to have any power loss, yet.

This is stupid.

I anyone is worried, just keep a warranty on your car or sell it.

I have an 06/07 AMG 63 and it's done over 85000 klms.

Had a pinging issue/detonation issue at 1 point but that problem is fixable. Only happened cause in my country you can't go faster than 110 kl/ph and it was driven lightly around
town.

What about the issues with E55's? They had their own problems.

I briefly read thru that class action law suit. Why did the plantiff have to fork up ~$4500 for something that should've been a warranty repair at no charge?

I had an engine start up rattle, resulting in a faulty camshaft adjuster but the dealer fixed it under warranty.

I just received a call from the lead lawyer in Texas. They have served MB USA, Daimler and AMG. They still do not know who will be included in the class. He said the last car case he worked it took 11 months from the time they were served until the time they settled. He said AMG owners are extremely brand loyal, so between that and the potential bad publicity, and the increasing expenses as the case drags out would lead to a quicker settlement.

He said he has numerous examples right in front of him of 156 failures. One crate engine paid for by MB was around $90k. Once the court decides or the parties agree owners will have the option to join the suit.

Yup, that's usually how it works. Another thing is if you own one currently, especially if you bought one second hand it's probably wise to make sure you are in MB's database. That's how they are going to contact you. The lawyers will get a list from MB of the customers.

I'm assuming something similar occurred to the C32, they updated the cams the next year of production and advised not to use the previous cams. Apparently the cam lobes would shift and cause the engine to die.

Supposedly 2007 & 2008 are the years most affected. Depending on the S/N of the engine there are 2 TSB's... One TSB says to replace only the camshaft adjusters (VCT) for certain S/N engines, The other TSB for the second range of S/N engines is to replace the adjusters as well as the cams. Some people get lucky and get tappets as well. My 2008 ML63 had a nasty tapping on the drivers side head.... The replaced only the VCT adjusters on that side. Looking at the design of the heads and choices made by AMG I could safely say they set themselves up possible failures. Any engine that revs to 7200rpm with direct cam lobe contact tappet actuated valves and poor choices for materials simply spells HIGH WEAR LEVELS. Even more so with a 0W/40 oil choice. Now I've read that MB says 5W/40 for the M156 engines. 0W/40 may be a decent choice if you lived in the Arctic but for California.... Not. Now looking at the new 5.5L Biturbo and the cut-away images of the heads.... AMG got it right this time, The cam lobe contacts a roller instead of a tappet. I'm under a extended CPO warranty well into 2014 so if it breaks it's on them.

PS: The 2012 CLS63 5.5 Biturbo has got to be one of the most beautiful out there! 2012 SLS63 looks like a cross between a Vette and a Viper plus it's got the old 6.2L instead of the new 5.5L Biturbo... Why is that??

I find it hard to believe that a law firm would invest hundreds or thousands of hours in a suit that had no merit. I also do not like frivolous lawsuits, but I also do not like companies producing a substandard product and making the consumer eat it. There ARE TSBs regarding known cam issues, there's no disputing that. If there is no merit the case will be dismissed, and if there is substantial proof of systemic issues the case will move forward. Not sure why that makes some people "morons."

Yeah, I guess we'll see...There are bad runs of almost any product even in the hyper accurate world of F1...
