Okay that's a fair assessment. And I do understand that there are bad runs on anything, food, clothes, you name it. But what I don't like is if they (MB) continue to make it that way and then cover it up through a silent recall. Also unlike a Honda Accord if one of our engines grenades it's going to be $50k+ for a crate engine. I have a bumper to bumer warranty for two years so I'm not personally worried, but this defect "could" affect our resale value substantially down the road.

If my motor blows I'll be leading this bandwagon LOL...Though I've seen pulled M156 low mile motors for around $15-20K...You know, pocket change haha

CH...I can't find any documentation that this was ever resolved in production.
Only with a repair kit, after the symptoms appear.

Just talked to the lead attorney to get an update. He told me that they filed an amended complaint adding more litigants to the case. MB was served recently and they are waiting for them to respond. I'll check back with him again in a few months.

He also added that they just recently settled a class action with BMW over engine defects as well, that case was filed in 2009. Litigants received cash and an extended warranty.

Add me to this posting... Can't wait, have had the 'ticking' for a while, and the dealership never says anything about it. I did see one in the service area all torn down when I was buying mine. It was an 07, valvetrain all messed up.

Someone should tell them about all the fuel sending units puking fuel over and over even after the recall to supposedly fix this problem in the E55's.

Yes sir....lifters, tappets and/or adjusters.

I'm assuming that's your car ? If so, hopefully still under warranty.

Edit:Unfortunately, I've heard this sound all too often when looking at '09's

Mine sounds exactly like this was told it is normal by a few Amg techs at 3 dealers
I don't buy it I heard a few 63 engine with no noise.
I don't think it is the adjusters was told the adjusters going bad sound like a loud clack , can this be lifters?
Btw I only get this on the right side and from the paperwork on my car
The right cams and lifters were replace befor I purchased the car
What do you think????

According to the DTB, tappets. Adjusters are more like a ticking.

PM sent

I have an aftermarket warranty through NAC. I definitely don't remember this sound when i bought the car. The guy I bought it from had the lifters replaced under warranty, and that was less than a year before I bought it. Haven't read the warranty specific to this but sure hope it's covered.!

If you check the MB EPC online**, depending on when that work was done, MB has updated/graded the replacement parts used for the "fix".

Mind you, this goes away after warming up and driving after 5 or 10 minutes, or just not noticeable anymore.

Not on mine. I let it idle until it was at 95C and still just as loud.

I had 07 that made that noise, my 09 is a lot quieter but still has a ticking noise when the engine is cold.

On my way to the dealership now for their diagnosis. Also hear what sounds like a pulley bearing going out, but I'm no expert I just know these sounds are new. We shall see if NAC is in the mood to replace engine parts.

My favorite tech said its a normal sound. I'm having them pull the TSB that the attorney on the class action gave me to see what it says (TSB Li05.20-P-050105)

FWIW my 156 is quiet so far with about 8K miles and normal readings from the last oil analysis at 6K. Will do another sample in about 3 weeks. Oil analysis can be a powerful weapon to convince MBUSA to take action.

Subscribed. It still seems unclear what MY's are affected. From what I gather from reading posts people are saying it's mostly the 07-08's engines. Does anybody know if the 09+'s had different parts used to correct the issue? Any further updates about the lawsuit would be appreciated.

**Update**

I spoke to the lead attorney again today to get an update. Here's the latest... Mercedes (of course) has been trying very hard to have the case and its various facets dismissed. A judge will decide by July whether the whole case or only certain portions will proceed, or he could dismiss it entirely.

There are around 30,000 people in the class! I was shocked to hear this as I just assumed it was a relatively small number, something like 500 or so. He reminded me that this covers all of the 6.3 models from 2007-2011, C63, S63, E63 etc etc

The lead attorney is Neil Goro, and he would be interested in hearing from anybody that has had engine issues or repairs, basically something that could help the case. He can be reached at 210-487-7500. There is a lot of info in this thread, so please don't bug him with questions that have already been answered.
http://www.wigrum.com/attorneys/Neil+A./Goro/

I will post an update again some time in July.
