Exclamation CEL is back,Please talk Vac to me,E63

Please point me where to look for all info on the intake manifold and all the Vac lines from it. Sometimes I get the P0171 code at random after driving and sometimes just as I come to a stop off a highway I can see it come on soon as I am idle.
Can any of the Secondary air injection parts be leaking vac at idle?
Anyone have any pix or docs showing all the parts related to the intake?
A friend says his had a valve or PCV on the back of the motor that cracked or collapsed and that caused the same issue.Simple fix.

I get code P0171 = system too lean at idle-Bank 1.
So which side of motor is bank 1? passenger or driver side? Please tell/show me everything about the intake and any vac lines/ports I can check. I just had the intake manifold gasket changed and that wasnt the problem. So I took the snorkels off the intake, lifted the airboxes up while still connected and removed the foam cushion around injectors. And the sprayed a whole can of parts cleaner around the intake manifold and vac lines and such in front of it and no idle changes. So this CEL comes on sometimes early as 28 miles driven or 100 miles driven.
I did take out the charcoal filters and also have K&n's but I dont think this could be an issue at all. This is only bank1. I also switch sides with the MAF and O2 sensors to see if the CEL would now read Bank 2 but no luck, still Bank1.

Wil la smoke machine show anything?Does it have to be dead cold to smoke test it or hot and cold test would be best?
I tried to create an account at AMG Private Lounge but I get "this VIN is not registered" at step 2 of making an account and brings me back to the start.

I had this code come up when I took out the carbon filters and had the k&ns in. Put the stock filters back in and see if thats the problem. I put the stock ones back in and i've been good so far. Good luck

Probably not coincidence that I took out the carbon filters just prior to getting this code. I've seen a few E63 owners on here having the same issue when the carbons are removed but other E63 owners have removed the carbons and have no problems.

What could possibly be causing this for some E63's and not others?

Jay...check your intake mani for leaks

Front of the manifold is known for leaking. Just hit the spot where the intake meet the head with WD40 or carb cleaner when the motor is on and see if you notice the idle change. If you do you have a leak try re TQ on the bolts might work. I have seen some 63 bolts so loose you can turn with your hand.
If not new gasket... I use back to old bolts with lock on them that all ...

You Sir are Correct! Its the gasket, it has nothing to do with the filters being replaced, it has everything to do with playing with and adjusting the airbox when you replace those filters.

I went to K&N and I let them dry out it was fine for 1000 miles then I got the CEL, took to dealer it was a intake manifold gasket issue. Fixed and returned the car to me same day.

Can you explain how the intake manifold gasket can get damaged while removing the extra carbon filters or replacing the air filters? I'm not mechanically inclined but I need to sound that way when I go back to the shop and tell them the problem and that they caused it.

For me I didnt actually remove the top of the air boxes, I just removed the screw so it was loose enough to remove(Lift Up) and put in the several pieces I needed to.

That being said I bent the Y hose that connects to the the throttle body up and I didnt loosen anything in the back. I believe thats what cause the leak.

As far as going to the dealer and telling them its their fault? Probably not going to happen. As it will be difficult to prove unless you take it to a Indy shop have them rip it a part, and have them verify it was caused by Air Filter installers and then paying Indy shop and suing the dealer. Even then its not even worth it. Just pay to fix it or leave it. Either way its just saying more air is coming into the motor than the tolerance level is set to. You can also drive it as it sits I would say. The motor should retard for the extra airflow.
